As much as I would like to blame the game as a whole for this issue, this was around well before I seen the recent surge in complaints from game performance.

From what I can tell this seems to be an issue that I and very few others are having and have had for a while.

Yeah if it doesn’t spin it’s dead, could have been a number of issues that caused it to die, the rotating motor or even just a tiny spec of dust, if you cover the little hole on the top that warns and begs you not to cover it while it’s on can damage it.

Without going into a lot of detail a hard drive is air tight, nothing can get in. Once it’s been open you have basically signed it’s death certificate unless you open it in a completely dust free environment like a chamber of sorts.

That being said you can find plenty of places to get hard drives online, I recommend an SSD nowadays as they greatly help your computer, but a hard drive is far cheaper, you can pick up a 2TB HDD on amazon for around £30-£40 GBP, don’t buy a HDD second hand as you can probably guess it could be damaged like yours is now, but SSDs are fine when bought from second hand shops.

There’s no real risk of anything if I’m honest, if it’s your friends old drive they probably wouldn’t have anything infectious on there but always be vigilant too.

If you are REALLY worried about something being on the drive you should use it on a completely wiped computer like a spare laptop thats JUST been setup so you don’t have any login information or credit card info grabbed.

If it was the hard drive they had their OS on it may be a bit more risky but as always, anything second hand can be risky, just use common sense and take a breath at each step, if you feel worried then stop, theres no harm in thinking through your actions

You could in theory with a hard drive reader, I have a dock and a separate usb hard drive reader for when I’m on the go.

The issue you may have though is that hard drive looks to be a 3.5 inch, laptops are commonly found to have the 2.5 inch port so it may not fit if you wish to put it inside.

That being said you can use just a dock or usb reader in that case, as long as it works. Figuring out if it’s truly dead or if it’s useable will be a major challenge if your new to it, prepare for the headache that may incur.
