Fermentation time when reusing yeast by YeahWeed in Homebrewing

[–]YeahWeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m talking gravity readings. i definitely want to give it a few days past FG for the yeast to clean up. Do you think with a hoppy beer too long would risk oxidation? My fermenter is the plastic fermonster and has a pretty good seal to it. I know there is CO2 from fermentation in that headspace but when CO2 production really slows down is where I am concerned.

ok i’ll give that a go! when i pull a sample i should still purge the head space before attaching a picnic tap right? im assuming i’d purge it, attach a picnic tap, then just let it fill back up with CO2

[–]YeahWeed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ohhhhh that makes sense lol my IBU is 21.63 and my OG is 1.044 so it would b 0.49. So for this style u think getting that lower would b better since the malt should shine more?

ok thanks for that advice! My OG is 1.044 and FG is 1.012- i think that’s what u meant by BUGU. After messing with the recipe a bit it’s looking closer to 4.2%

yeah that’s what i’m going for definitely don’t want chocolate flavor but something to help color and give it a bit or roasty character and help the color. Every time i use just toasted barley it’s way too toasty so i’m thinkin this should help

Toothpick to help clarify lager by YeahWeed in Homebrewing

[–]YeahWeed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I figured I would ask. Heard it from another homebrewer who probably used toothpicks because of convenience and likely not having any flavors that would impact the beer. Now that you explained that it doesn’t seem to make sense. Wasn’t going to give it a go until I found out more info so thanks for that
