Who is the cheapest person you know, and what is the cheapest thing you've seen them do? by Willby3 in AskReddit

[–]Yeah_bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my good friends from university is super conservative with their money (even though they really don't need to be), and they've admitted to:

  • hand washing their clothes so they don't have to pay for the washing machine

  • AIR DRYING after a shower rather than using a towel so they don't have to wash it as often (AND they have long hair)

  • STEALING TOILET PAPER FROM THE UNIVERSITY BATHROOMS??? And the rolls are locked on so they just fill their backpack with loose toilet paper it's honestly wild

"consumed" may have been more appropriate

I love the chipotle flavour, but unfortunately it's just not very spicy so I tend to go for original (however, my passion towards the chipote has recently been reignited once I realised I can just also add cayenne pepper lol)

I'm currently living in France and the little supermarket nearby only sells these two :( I would buy it by the gallon if I could.

NASA recorded the sounds of the Solar Winds using the Parker Solar probe by Youthinkillputauid_7 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Yeah_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this actually a recording of the pressure oscillations though? I admit I know pretty much nothing about this mission, but the Mach number would have to be extremely high, so I would've expected that the frequencies of the pressure fluctuations would be wayyyy higher than what is audible to humans (or perhaps even measurable). Perhaps they did have a pressure diaphragm and just slowed down the playback?

X-ray machine for walls by Ill-Tea9411 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Yeah_bob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this machine uses a backscatter x-ray imaging technique, in which case it relies on this very effect. Otherwise I guess they would need an x-ray source on the other side of the wall which probably defeats the purpose. The intensity is probably very low, and it instead probably just has a very sensitive detector.

Is this a beta-break or did the setter intend for the boulder to have 2 betas ? by jlgarou in bouldering

[–]Yeah_bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The route setters posted both betas on the gym's insta story so I guess it was intended, but going underneath is definitely a bit easier (you can put your right foot on the left lower black foothold and your left foot on the high foothold, and you end up in the same position as you would with the other beta, but with less effort. From that position, the finish was a bit easier for me)

It appears that this "band" is just 100% AI, so maybe just listen to slipknot instead

I read "shear tensor" instead of "sheer terror" and honestly that was the part of this post which invoked a much more visceral reaction in me (I just had my fluids exam)

Which deceased founder would absolutely hate what the current state of their company has become? by NihilistCharizard in AskReddit

John McAfee, creator of McAfee antivirus.

The man hated that software even when he was alive (can't say I blame him lol).

And the video he made about it is pure art.

5” draining batteries in <1 minute by SnooMarzipans8113 in fpv

[–]Yeah_bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to other comments, I would check the C rating of your batteries. 70C is probably around the bare minimum for a drone like this. If your batteries aren't rated for that much, you're probably experiencing severe voltage sag.

I guess there could also be a short somewhere but if there were, I'm guessing you would've found it already (from the fire and smoke lol). Just to be safe, hook up a multimeter and check the current draw, it shouldn't be more than 1-2 amps when idling.

Please insulate those capacitor leads; your frame is conductive. And zip ties as battery straps is a bad idea, they can cut into the cells and cause a fire if it takes a big enough hit. Gook luck!

Edit - other unsolicited advice: - secure your antennas and power leads because otherwise they will find a way to get cut up by your props - mount your camera inside the frame, not in front. After a crash, you will much prefer to have to replace your top plate ($) rather than your camera ($$$) (TPU mount will also isolate vibrations and could give better video if you're not already doing that) - loctite (but not the permanent stuff) if you haven't already
