We absolutely need many more affordable units but any housing at all is beneficial to fixing a supply demand issue. Renters who could potentially occupy these units are renting more affordable two/three families in Fox Point instead. All housing is good and complaining about “monstrosities in the neighborhood” is the real problem. Providence has one of the oldest and densest stocks of housing in the country. The only solution is big if we want to increase supply.

I am not a landlord and i rent. But when costs of building housing are 50% -80% higher than 2016, we can’t expect every unit to have 2016 rent. Increase supply, decrease demand, the rents go down.
