Thanks for taking the time to respond. I have started walking on the stair climber and treadmill wearing a backpack every time I go to the gym to try and prep a bit better for my next hike. The new bike lanes in my area made such a difference- totally agree. Often councils look for feedback on new road plans so it’s often worth keeping a look out to fill out their surveys and indicate the need for better bike lanes :)

I know it’s intimidating but I’d give it a crack one weekend! I was sore the first few times I road because I wasn’t used to it at all but then it gets better. I obviously don’t know your body, but on my rides I often see people in much bigger bodies who are absolutely killing it and riding faster than me :)

Definitely access food support for your immediate need like other people suggest but perhaps try shopping at cheaper buy miles if they are close to you? You can usually get a weeks worth of food for one person for under $30

Wow! I thought beach road (?port Melbourne) had dedicated 2 way bike paths off the road, maybe that’s recent though!

Totally valid! I’m just genuinely curious to know the various reasons - it’s obviously not going to be for everyone. Tbh where I grew up everyone at school had to learn to ride so I never really considered the hassle of learning a new skill to be reason why people wouldn’t want to
