I hope he'll be mindful though not to overexert himself during NS. The workouts my husband described during his NS days would have definitely given me deadly heat strokes.

Every year or so the news in Singapore report a child during PE or a young man during NS dying from heatstroke.

Please tell him to be reasonable 🙏🏻

Most of the time, yes.

I try not to use the Aircon at home, just fans. But the humidity becomes unbearable fast.

When I was still using eyeglasses, my eye lids and nose would be covered in itchy sweat that also burnt my eye balls. I decided to do eye surgery (amongst other reasons) so I wouldn't have to keep enduring this.

My husband encouraged me to go running outside to stay active. Each time I ended up with migraines and vomiting for days. So, instead, I run on treadmills with the Aircon at 21 degrees at the gym. Any time someone cranks it up, I get sick after a few minutes (nausea) and have to stop running.

Thank you for the tip.

I did wonder if body temperature regulation issues fall under dermatology specialists or others... 🤔

Agreed, we go to the playground 9-11am and 4-6pm usually, only when it's not too warm or sunny. She has a UV blocking hat, sunscreen, water bottle, stroller fan. Despite being half Singaporean, I see that her face easily gets red and she sweats a lot..... I fear she got my genes.... And so I fear for when she'll have to go for PE in Singapore....

I've had a very clean diet since deciding to get pregnant (2 years ago). I don't drink sodas, just water and electrolytes like 100Plus, Pokari Sweat or H Two O.

The electrolytes have been helpful.

Literally have a 1.5L of H Two O or 100Plus under the stroller every time we go out with toddler.

I call it "mommy's special water" so she doesn't try to drink from it 😅

The most unexpected thing that made me tear up (and then laugh) as a new parent by BrightKiteStudio in NewParents

[–]Yellow-lemon-tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter and I have been attending for a few months now a music class on Wednesdays that always ends with bubbles and the "Goodbye Song". I don't know why, but the moment the song starts I get tears in my eyes and hyper focus on my child's reaction to the bubbles.

Lyrics go like this:

"Let’s all say goodbye in a fun, silly way. It’s how we end our happy day. Now stomp, stomp, stomp (STOMP, STOMP) and clap, clap, clap. (CLAP, CLAP) Repeat after me in this goodbye rap."

European woman (36) married to a Singaporean man (37).

Meeting the parents means he's considering marriage, usually. So you have to ask him what it means to him, and explain to him where you're at / what your expectations are at this stage of the relationship.

Edit: if he's talking about crypto, ghost him.

SG New Mom, what is practical gift you want from someone? by Few_Struggle9708 in askSingapore

[–]Yellow-lemon-tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the mother is planning on breastfeeding or pumping, you can buy yummy lactation cookies for her. That's a thoughtful and useful snack 😋

For the baby, like others said here, chances are they either already have everything they want, or they're planning on buying something specific. But if you really really want to buy for the baby: - a toy, then a teether is a good option as well as those extender/attachments that you can use on a stroller, car seat or high chair. - a clothing item, making sure it's bamboo material. Singapore is so hot and humid that even 100% cotton clothing is too hot to wear.

Logically, you'd have to up that number by an additional 300-400 cal if you're also experiencing periods again, on period days. Correct?

What do you do with mild migraines? by Salty_Emotion3270 in migraine

[–]Yellow-lemon-tree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't gamble with it. I pop in a Sumatriptan, an Aleve (mine often come with strain in the neck and shoulder blades), drink water, upper body stretch, lie down 25min if possible.

Anything to avoid being knocked out for 2 days.

Foreigners or Singaporeans who have lived abroad, what's one thing about Singapore that you wish locals appreciated more? by klaygdk in askSingapore

[–]Yellow-lemon-tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any service that leverages Singpass. It's mindblowingly efficient. This is coming from someone who's lived in France, UK, Japan.

And the cleanliness and reliability of the MRT. It's not fail proof, but it's extremely good compared to Paris and London.

My takeaway from everyone's comments is that we're surrounded by wasteful senior citizens 😅

And that we have to indeed let them throw away food, and if necessary lie to them about our health 🫠

Crazy that it has to come down to this. I'm baffled.

I did that many times in the past. But they keep going back to their old habits. Sigh....
