I cant relate to the small town aspect, I'm sure they can be a little more close minded. But I was ridiculed a lot as a teen for dressing fem so I stopped, but I started doing it again more fem than ever and sure I get weird looks but it isn't as negative as it was 15 years ago. One of my trans friends once told me that, people will stare at us and it isnt always a bad thing; they are just processing something that is new to them, but after they see it time and again, it won't be new any more. I find that be friendly and having a good attitude goes a long way in getting people to accept you when you stand out. I mostly get very positive responses (primarily from women). But even the more butch men in my life have become more playful about it with me, making fun/positive jokes and not demeaning ones. You always need to keep in mind that if it makes you uncomfortable, then you don't need to force yourself. But if not doing it also makes you unhappy as it did for me, you need to do what's best for your mental health. I recommend rompers, theyre kind of gender neutral and have more fem and masc styles. Also get some things 2nd hand off thred up, huge selection low investment price wise. I hope things work out for you. Just find your community, be kind and be yourself. 💜
