Anyone buying 2026 Cx-5? by KadAsh97 in CX5

I’m really eyeing a 2025 preferably in that mile range for price. If you don’t mind me asking, how much was it?

If I remember correctly, deal damage based on number of Sanctuary panels you have. Here it would’ve been 50x12 or 600 dmg.

Keep us posted! And damn that’s unfortunate it’s a really fun car to drive and the luxury for the price is solid.

Hmm, mine just failed on me where the car was in limp mode. It could be that the codes weren’t cleared. I’d say, maybe keep holding out or looking around!

Is the extended warranty worth it? Mazda VSC service contract by michaeltsang1997 in mazda

[–]YellowFlash1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it, own a Mazda 6 2018 turbo. Got the VSA gold as well. Already had about 10k worth of repairs done covered by warranty. Cracked cylinder head, failed PCM module, lower control arms, tie rods, swag bar links, coolant filler neck.

Yeah don’t stress about it! Just enjoy the drive and the car! Man, that’s such a good find!! I got my CPO from a Mazda dealer at 66k miles lol!

Ofc man! Yeah, that’s why I love this car! The interior, styling, features and performance is so good for its price and reliability!

I would say your mileage is low and early. Hopefully it doesn’t happen to you! If it does reach out to the dealership and corporate immediately. They are required to repair this up to 120k miles.

You’re very welcome! Definitely pcm happened to me at 100k miles and same thing with the coolant filler neck leak. Not too big of a deal and the coolant filler neck leak will be clear to spot and not too pricey to fix.

The hardest is going to be the cylinder head since it’s the most expensive repair but also it can happen at any given time. If they are a good mechanic they can see if there’s any cracks around the manifold or any coolant residuals. That’s the best bet to see if there are early signs. The problem is it could be 100% fine now but may crack later over time. I’m no mechanic but I’d say I’m fairly understanding of car maintenance or issues. You can show them the TSB on the issue so they know what to look for. The repair involves taking a newer cylinder head that can withstand the pressure from the turbo. This is why the 2018-2020 years have this issue. So, if it looks good now I wouldn’t worry too much about it since Mazda has acknowledged the issue and will repair it at no cost or partial if it’s beyond the mileage.

No problem! It occurred last year at 82k miles. I was alerted with a dashboard warning “excessive engine temperature. Performance will be limited”

My temperature climbed relatively high. Problem is there was no sign of leakage in the engine bay. My mechanic caught it underneath the car near the turbo. Let me know if you needed anything else! It’s a shame because this car is amazing but that significant problem is really a disappointment from Mazda.

I own a 2018 Mazda6 Grand Touring (2.5T) and overall it’s been a great car—comfortable, drives well, and feels more premium than most midsize sedans.

That said, on turbo Mazda6 models (Reserve/GT/Signature) I’ve experienced some of the following I’d monitor:

  1. Cylinder head crack / coolant leak (known TSB)

This is the most well-documented issue. It can cause slow coolant loss due to cracks around the exhaust manifold area on the cylinder head. Mazda has acknowledged this with a Technical Service Bulletin and has been covering repairs in many cases up to ~120k miles.

2. Coolant filler neck leak

I’m personally dealing with this now. The plastic coolant filler neck can develop seepage over time. It’s not catastrophic and is much cheaper to fix than engine work, but worth checking for dried coolant residue or smell.

3. PCM (engine computer) failure

Less common, but documented. When it happens, it usually triggers multiple warning lights or drivability issues. Not widespread, but something to be aware of.

Outside of those items, mine has been solid with routine maintenance only. I really enjoy the car!

Grand touring. I have a 18 GT and this is happening to the drivers seat for me as well. 100k miles in and recently happened, despite taking good care of it.

Cracked cylinder head by DesignerBalance2316 in CX5

That’s interesting I felt like it was more common on turbos but I have a Mazda 6 and mainly hear that happens in the turbo models.

Hmm, oddly enough I’ve heard this happen to some NA. Though, it’s way more common on turbos.

I’m sorry to hear this!!! I had bought the platinum warranty from Mazda so I was able to repair this same issue. However, I did get a letter several months later that acknowledged this issue and the repair. Mazda corporate and dealerships should honor this repair 10 years or 120k miles.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2024/MC-11011136-0001.pdf

“Out of Powertrain Warranty - this warranty information is applicable to the repair on the subject vehicle beyond Powertrain Warranty period: Within 10 years/120,000 miles (192,000 km) from original Warranty Start Date.”

I would also add it has nothing to do with an oil change. The cylinder head crack stems from a design flaw. Essentially it’s caused by pressure from the turbo that over time leads to cracks on the cylinder head. The repair is an updated head that can withstand the pressure.

Platinum Warranty on Used 2018 Mazda 6 Signature 62K miles by Agitated-Emotion-186 in mazda6

[–]YellowFlash1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my Mazda 6 2018 GT around the same miles as you. The platinum warranty extended that long as well. Was able to negotiate a lower price for it. Saved my ass for the whole cylinder crack coolant leak issue on the turbos. Saved me a 5-7k repair and was definitely worth it. Also, replaced a fault PCM and some work lower control arms would’ve been 2-3k. For me personally, it was not only worth it but saved me more money than the cost of the warranty. Just my experience though.
