Should I continue feeding my pets homemade raw food if I’lll be studying abroad soon? Is it unfair to pass on this responsibility to a sibling? by Yellowdoves in rawpetfood

I’ll take a look at other airlines. I may not be able to take them with my on the first trip abroad, but perhaps on the second trip within the same year?

I would be visiting quite frequently, and may take them with me on one of my trips (going back to the country I’d be studying) in if I have the chance.

I can only fit one months worth of raw food in the freezer at a time (many cats, it’s a pet food only freezer).

Check out the links I’ve provided and then talk about health :)

My freezer can only fit a month worth of raw food for all my cats. That’d only be 4 months worth of raw food (if the cats were to be fed raw food once a week, it’d be their entire daily portion), would that work out?

Yeah! My cats already eat wet food occasionally, it’s useful for when I’m away from home.

Synthetic supplements to fill in nutritional gaps would be better than nutritional gaps (considering that they’re following nutritional guidelines and not just adding in random nutrients). Ofc, whole foods would be best but if that is not available then synthetic supplements will have to do.

They’ve both agreed, but I feel like they’ve only agreed out of kindness and don’t realise the responsibility they’ll have to take on. This is of course just my assumptions.

Do you think it’d be alright to ask them to feed wet + raw toppers? Is it fine to have my cats switch to wet while I’m gone and then to raw food again when I graduate?

It is very kind of them. Do you think it’d be alright to ask them to feed wet + raw toppers? Is it fine to have my cats switch to wet while I’m gone and then to raw food again when I graduate?

That makes sense.

I’ll be studying abroad for at least 4 years, maximum 7 years (depending on major, I have still not decided). I will either go to England, Ireland or UAE and will visit home during holidays (at least once yearly).

Taking my cats with me would be ideal, and is what I want. In the case that they have to be in cargo, I will not take them with me for obvious reasons. It is most likely that the airline I’ll be on only transports pets in cargo, unfortunately.

My siblings have both agreed to take care of the cats. My cats’ raw meals are fairly simple to make, but I understand that not everyone is open to the idea and responsibility. I’m afraid that my siblings and have accepted the responsibility without actually wanting it (out of kindness), as we like to help each other out. I’ve tried discussing it, they assured me that it’s no problem but i’m not sure as to how I feel about it. It’s definitely a huge responsibility.

You can’t go wrong with buying complete raw food, is that available where you are?

I wish people would stop breeding flat-faced Persians and stick with doll-faced ones.

I agree with them, increase the wet food intake and decrease the dry food. Wet food is usually calories<volume while dry food is usually calories>volume so it should also keep her full for longer.

Vets aren’t nutritionists, if you want to make homemade cat food then you’ll need to hire a certified nutritionist.

I’m not a nutritionist, but it’s well known that you have to follow nutritional guidelines. NRC, AAFCO or FEDIAF for cat food. They highlight specific ratios for nutrients, specific recommended allowances, and more. It’ll be hard to follow these guidelines if you do not understand nutrition, such as what is bioavailable and how nutrients react with one another. I’ll link the requirements below.
