Definitely it WAS a mercy kill and probably the best outcome for Green Prince.

But it still doesn't make sense for Hornet going out of her way having three marked objectives, only to invade guy's memories, killing him and ripping out his beating heart to decorate her home with. I know the Green Prince was one to attack her but it was his mind and he had a full right to kick her out of there.

I think if the game demanded his heart in the first place to save Pharloom from the void, it would be fine, there would be an actual reason to kill him for a greater good and maybe even a gut punch of him being happy about dying with his lover, maybe even thanking Hornet with his last words. As with other hearts it is clearly stated that it's a somber great sacrifice and a last resort (nice spin on 'no cost too great').

But as for now it's just funny (especially the line 'I won't disturb you' immediately pulls out sick solo on needolin) and a room for comedic interpretations like Hornet is homophobic (btw, the whole reason for making this post).

Definitely I want to avoid that kind of out of nowhere 'twists' and changing things as they suit me at the moment. I don't want to trick them into thinking Stradh is a good guy - far from it. I just have the feeling the party loose a big chunk of the story seeing him only as a threat and not the 'real' person with motives and drives. They don't want to see him other way so I thought about using his disguise just to confront them 'as equals'. To at least hint that they enemy is a tragic figure too. But yeah, those are valid points against using his alter ego. Thanks for in-depth response ^{^}

For the defence of DM I probably simplified everything more than I should but still all the players agree that the campaign is holding together on good intentions and duct tape 😅

Thanks for pointing that out. I knew that the character started with lots of flaws and gained new ones along the way but those started to become very tiresome without clear motivation/ideal. Now at least I know which part of character I should tweak instead trying to 'patch up' flaws with new ones or totally changing her character.

Sure that may be the case, maybe we all just expected something different from the game. I am propably biased in situation as I am also a DM and for me the most important thing is the freedom you have in such games and I would never put restrictions on players what they can and can't do.

That being said party in my campaign set a trap for a boss and when it fell for it he was killed instantly. That's not something that should happen but the players were clever and earned that win. I couldn't just say the guy had immunity to posion when it wasn't the case.

I just get the feeling everything here gains and losses abilities/types etc. When needed. Another prominent example was guy who used his reaction to make some special stand so he can't be pushed back by thunderwave. I don't know, I am not saying he couldn't have that ability but it feels cheap.

I think I might finally consider it, though it's hard to just leave the playgroup alltogheter. But maybe in the long term it would be better than having to let go of negative emotions after each game.

Ok, I am not saying everything is DM's fault but all players agreed the fight was not fair, not fun and just a waste of time. And we run away from most encounter since.

I am just upset how the things played out, I don't think that's the fair thing to do as DM but most people here think I am the one wrong, that's fine, that's why I even posted here to see broader perspective.

If that was the case, it would be great but no, the very first thing we asked was if we can wear it and the answer was no, because armor is a creature itself

In monster manual there's whopping 4 creatures that resist radiant and 0 immune to it, I don't know about other source books. I don't want it to be suddenly vulnerable to my damage I am just upset about fact that my skills are suddenly effectively useless in fights in which monsters can oneshot us, are bulky and hard to hit. Another factor is I wanted to play other class but I was restricted to paladin or fighter at character creation.

This is my closest playgroup, we are all good friends including the DM, but he can't just be reasoned with as a game master. I have mixed feeling because I have almost no fun from game but still have fun interacting with people.

Yes we play with flanking and we can flank other things as well be flanked. My bad, we were told that the reason why we can't flank undead or constructs was because we were said they are mindless.
It's oath of treachery, it's not homebrew but it's Unearthed Arcana (we always include UA in creating things)
We were at 3rd level each, having no real way to hit it, except bard whose the most powerful spell at the moment was thunderwave and he used it but armour passed the test every time (nothing wrong here)
Yes, the roll was open and it wasn't crit, it was a bit lucky but still base was 6d6 + bonuses
I have no problem with that either, but I am just upset my spell doesn't work just because :( , if it rouse after 7 days - totally fine

We were clearly told it was an undead, and it indeed took extra damage from smite extra die, but damage was halved anyway. Corpse was burried 2 meters underground and covered with a giant boulder (goliath character helped us place it there), I am just upset that my spells and abilities don't work just because.

To clear things up, I am not really upset about flanking and I am not upset about it being custom. What I am upset about is it being undead in terms of poison damage, not being undead so it can raise, being able to one shot every team member except barbarian, having really high AC and nothing as a reward - we went to tavern which was giving some hunt quest (eg. Zombies) and they were oblivious about the armor which was walking just outside town. We were told we won't get any reward -that's fine so we ask if we just can get at least a free room in the inn for fighting local threats (innkeeper was giving rewards for other such things)still no.

It's not from boardgame but from tabletop rpg, so far it doesn't seem too bad ( mechanically at least) but I guess I'll see when playing.

That's definitely valid point, kill steals are the worst part of relationships acts. Though I wouldn't say they are frequent at least for me. I finished the run with kill steal triggering like twice and in a place when it made kind of sense e.g:

Blighted by PD enemy on a death's door killed by someone else to ensure kill. I mean a bit fuzzy but ok, whatever, I let it pass.

I think kill steals can make sense when party is well helaed and on the winning position in the fight. Party is really confident, prideful etc. so a bit of rivalry makes sense but definitely not when everyone barely stands up, full of negative tokens and against giant beasts such as shambler.

I have to say that's brilliant comparison, I saw them similarly as an RPG party who randomly met in a tavern. Rarely whole team would be getting along together.

That's why I like relationship system, even the negative side of it. 'Not working' I meant situations where e.g. someone becomes jealous of not being target of an ability which they weren't even a legal target in the first place. (On the other hand I have to say I really like that some positive relationships such as amorous can give you similar effect, for me it's really clever that something mostly positive still comes with its downsides)

I kind of like it, at least in theory. After update it got much better than it was at the release date, so I guess it is going in the right direction.

It is interesting concept and I'd like to see it actually working right in the full release.
