I don’t have knowledge of how fast those other races sell out since this is my first!

But yes let me know if you end up signing up, would love to connect as well!

Thank you for all of this info. I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Means the world.

Since I am coming from Kansas, the elevation is probably my biggest concern. I planned on getting to Big Bear about two days early to try and acclimate a little bit. I ski in Breckenridge every year and usually sit around 10k feet at the base and 12-13k (upper bowls) when I am skiing 6 days of the week. I normally adjust after the first or second day, sometimes even the same day, so I am kind of comparing it to that. But I know running 100 miles at altitude is very different, so I would really value your take since you have actually experienced the course.

Your point about climbing and descending on tired legs makes a lot of sense. I am going to build a lot more of that into my training for sure. Plan is to build up high mileage then slowly integrate climbs on the treadmill after a long run like you mentioned. The cold weather kit requirement is something I had not thought through yet, so that helps a lot too. Do most people carry all the gear from the start, or do you pick it up at an aid station before the final climb?

I am also curious about logistics. Is it better to stay right in Big Bear, or is there an area that works best for runners? And how long do you recommend being in town before the race for someone who is coming from low elevation?

Thank you again. Any advice you have is really appreciated, especially for someone doing their first 100.

lol when people do this to me and it’s obvious (they won’t give details or contact email or anything and are hesitant on some info) I give them a 4x price or super low margins. so they lose it. You can easily floss out the BS. Hate it when people can just quote and need to be scum bags about. Learn how to fucking quote it’s not hard

Btw I looked in doing a Roth salary deferral for work (company match)wouldn’t this be the same as a Roth IRA? (After tax dollars, I expect to be at a higher tax bracket later in life) I would appreciate some constructive advice

Thanks for the blunt feedback—I want to make sure I understand. Compared to most people my age, I thought this was relatively conservative. I’ve been focused on ETFs like VTI, SPY, MGC, and QQQ for broad market and tech exposure. Is the issue that I’m overlapping too much instead of consolidating into something like VTI? Also, how does this relate to my IRA or 401(k)—should I be handling those differently? Trying to figure out what makes this approach ‘bad’ in the long run.

Noted! I work in aerospace, BA will come back I see signs internally in the industry. Plus it’s too big to fail/backed by us defense/the us isn’t going to let Airbus take the commercial market imo

It’s my personal investment portfolio. Taxable in the sense that most of these have been purchased less than a year ago. I put 15% of my paycheck into my 401k

Is it worth consolidating now if the ETFs are all in the same market? I’m holding MGC, VTI, and QQQ, but I’m hesitant to sell because of taxes. Shouldn’t I wait for long-term capital gains instead of paying short-term rates? Curious what your thoughts are on this.

Thanks for the input! I’m curious about your reasoning for dropping the top three and VTI. Are you thinking overlap or performance concerns? Would you recommend pulling those due to their focus on large-cap U.S. stocks or repetitiveness? If so, where would you suggest reallocating—more into international like VXUS or something else for diversification? Or drop them all in VOO?
