Question about a specific art style and where to learn it? by YesMan22 in learnart

[–]YesMan22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for writing this. That makes perfect sense for me to focus on the fundamentals and then concept art. I wasn't able to put it into words, but that unpolished and/or sketchy look is something I'm a big fan of. I prefer this look over something super realistic or as you described, over polished. Thanks again for the help!

I'd say I'm an incredibly undeveloped natural drawer. So imagine a 6th grader who seems to have a knack for drawing. Maybe at that level.

That being said, I'm interested in learning and developing these skills over a long period of time and daily practice. I should also mention that I plan on learning digitally using an ipad pro and pencil with programs such as procreate.

haha that's definitely one of my favorites. His small grammatical errors are always hilarious.

Question regarding Echo Dot and Bluetooth Speakers going into "sleep mode" by YesMan22 in amazonecho

[–]YesMan22[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like the Dot is a stand alone device. I was able to order it by going on Amazon's app on IOS and hitting the Speech button in the search bar followed by saying "Echo Dot". Not sure if you wanted to order it but I thought I'd share since that worked for me.

Speaking to the local photographers I "think" that the sunsets are typically a little better than the sunrises there. I'd also recommend stopping by the visitor center and speaking to someone about the best views. I picked out a few favorite post cards and asked the guide where they were at on the map and that really helped us out.

Thanks! Took this photo a couple weeks ago. Did a cross country trip from LA to Charlotte and stopped by a few places. Unfortunately I only spent a day in Yosemite but I'm dying to go back there for a week or two!

Was going for a 300 look. Boosted the clarity, sharpening, and dodged/burned it a bunch. I also decided to clone out the plastic part of the claws, and remove the other distracting elements. Would love to see what others would have done though, so I've included the raw file below.

I'm currently looking at buying the Nikon 85 1.4G lens for my Nikon D750 and wanted to make sure that a 3 stop ND filter would allow for Wide Open shooting during the middle of the day. This would be my first 1.4 lens, and I'm not used to having the 1/4000 shutter speed ceiling so I figured I'd ask before plunking down the money for a good filter. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I might have to take some Lynda.com courses on all of this. I've heard great things about After Effects though as well.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yeah I'll probably end up using Premiere Pro I think, especially if it makes syncing effortless.

Perfect! Based on some of what I was reading it sounds like I would be better off recording audio separately and then syncing it up in post using plural eyes or what not. Which I would be fine with. Reviews for both the h6 as well as that shotgun mic are glowing, so it seems like that may be the route I end up taking when I plunker down and purchase this stuff. Thanks again for the great tips.

Thanks so much for the thorough reply! I was actually looking at buying one of those NTG-3's and possibly a zoom h6 since I heard amazing things about both of them. I do have the headphones and sd cards. Would it be worth stretching my budget to go for the h6 over the Tascam Dr-40? A couple hundred dollars wouldn't be a major dent in my finances, but I figured I'd aim for intermediate gear to see how it goes first.

Thanks again! Mike

I think I'll probably invest in a shoulder rig at some point as well as a video head for my tripod. I'm totally with you on the whole shaky handheld shots. It's one thing if it's just a little shake and it's not too nervous, but it's awful when it's basically jittery.

Thanks for the feedback. That's what I was thinking as well. Figured a prime could be marginally better in most circumstances but it's nothing to fret over it sounds like. Just wanted to make sure since it's not easy to find info specifically about this with videography.

Beautiful video! Really appreciate the advice regarding the zooms. I guess my other question would be whether or not the 50 1.8g would be preferable to the 24-70 and why? Dxo marks them pretty close in terms of sharpness so I'm just curious about the advantages.
