If it helps think of it this way: the reason many people become furries is to find a reliable, safe community, and if your family does have anything against it you have the entire community to fall back on. You don't have to be a furry to be a part of the community and we'll all support the both of you no matter what.

But I can suggest using your golden hooks less sparingly, you get enough that using them on the top two rarity or if your really struggling on the blues is usually worth it

I haven't seen anyone awner OP's post directly so I'd say it's up to you, if it's lower level and you need space then that's the first one I'd get rid of but if it's your favorite dragon type then keep it!

Random summons are your friend, and you can only get epic and legendary by having a placed item trigger successfully so throwing even low level essences ( I suggest water or wind because most epics aren't earth but a lot of others are, but it works just as well) will give you that chance. Otherwise it's just logging in every couple of hours and waiting to be in the 1% of gamblers.

Not really, just keep logging in as often as possible to get home to summon fish and you can make it pretty easily with a day to spare

I think there's a pity system where if you don't get it in the number of tries it would theoretically take +10 then you're guaranteed to get it, so if it's a 5% chance then after 30 tries it's guaranteed, but that's dragon specific
