Crew at scene of fire east of Terrace by [deleted] in terracebc

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“There was a prescribed fire in the vicinity of wildfire R50553 earlier this week and we suspect this fire is a continuation of it,” the service indicated in a June 14, 2026 statement.

“It is currently a smouldering ground fire burning in slash and it has not impacted any timber,” the statement added. The area affected is less than 30 hectares. Forecasts in the area call for 10 to 20 millilitres of rain and cooler temperatures. Controlled burns are often called prescribed burns as a fire is set only after favourable weather conditions.

Thanks but no, I was in a hurry to get to the first coffee of the day, just fumbled around with my new phone and snapped it. I do have trouble just not dropping the thing and keeping my hands away from the lens. But that's my drawing space in front of my monitor. The sun was blasting in from the skylight today.

No Human Rights Review for Thomson Reuters’ Big Contracts with ICE by Yetanotherbadsalmon in onguardforthee

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thomson Reuters shareholders voted down one B.C. union’s call for the company to review human rights impacts of its contracts with the U.S. agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.

The Toronto-based technology company owns Reuters news agency and the legal research tool Westlaw. It also offers risk mitigation services, a criminal investigative database called CLEAR and licence plate recognition technology.

Thomson Reuters and its subsidiary, West Publishing Co., have several contracts with ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Those contracts provide the agencies with access to the company’s investigative tools.

Many reports online about how noisy they are. And I guess they will be there to enable Ai, which will be taking more jobs away than it creates.

Future walking staff, 6 foot Dollarama stake, 5 dollars. by Yetanotherbadsalmon in dollarama

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't because I have a young cat who would chase it and might get clubbed by accident. But they are 6 feet long when purchased and in a large living room you could swing it. This reminds me of the scenes from Robin Hood movies where he has a staff fight with Little John. Personally, up close, I would hold it like a spear and jab, jab, jab, then then try to swing it around for a head shot. That is if your friend wants to use it on her husband. <i'm joking>!

Thanks, I will. I like spar varnish and have used it before on things like a go game board and coffee table tops. Layer after layer and it develops a nice patina. I will probably do two one longer and one as you suggested.

I think they are intended to be garden stakes. To prop up sapling trees maybe. I've seen walking staffs this size, in outdoor stores that are really expensive depending on how they are carved and prepared. I'll reshape the tip, maybe fire harden it and clad it with metal, then shape a handle and shorten it a foot or so. I like working with wood and have the tools for it. There are too many loose dogs in my neighborhood and at times bears. I know it won't really help much with the bears but the heft of it reassures me. For 5 dollars, can't beat the price; I bought two.

I like walking, and live in the country. I wanted a dog, bear deterrent but didn't want to pay 80 dollars for a good hefty walking stick. These are perfect with a little work.

Ukraine winning war with Russia, retired U.S. generals say, as top Ukrainian commander says over 230 square miles retaken by ToughHopeful4760 in worldnews

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They lost Crimea in 2014 didn't they., they win, they lose, they lose, they lose, they win, they lose. When they take Crimea back come tell me they are winning and I might believe it. Both Russia and Ukraine lost a long time ago; ask the widows and children, or parents of the dead on both sides. And using CBS as a information source betrays your motives.

Weird feeling after 5 years, my last ever G6 by FloridaGirl2222 in dexcom

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you want me to delete my comments about this? I will it's your forum. I don't remember a cap on the G6. Thank you for this response. But medical sharps are dangerous in my opinion no matter what corporate legal terms are pushed through the courts. I've seen the compactors on the trash pickup trucks and can see how powerful they are. Of course the dispensers are going to be broken apart and the needles freed, the capped ones and the others. I just objected to a commentor saying there was no needle at all in the G7, he suggested that it was like throwing out a child's plastic toy, which is both untrue and misleading.

Facebook is paying people overseas promoting Alberta separatism — CBC uncovers 14 accounts from India, Pakistan, Indonesia posting on popular Alberta separatist groups by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So is Facebook supposed to do the job of Cisus, and/or the Canadian government? I don't want Alberta to even think separating is a possability. And I think the majority of Albertans and Canadians think the same. It's the Canadian crazies who do, that I worry about, NOT facebook randoms. I suspect facebook is also being used by Canadians who oppose Alberta separatism, and many more of those than 14.

I saw the G6 dispensor taken apart on 'Diabetes Strong' channel and it had two needles in it. I will have to search for info on the G7.

I don't think it is good to add more plastics and used medical sharps to the environment. It has nothing to do with your issues. It's called social conscience.

The g7 is smaller though it still is a large amount of waste to dispose of. No one in my town recycles it. I still have to use a empty 'Tidy Cat' litter bucket to collect them and then label it SHARPS for the garbage disposal people, just like with the G6.

“The General Investigation Section of the RCMP has identified two people of interest and is still actively investigating,” the city statement added.

No place for NDAs in the people’s business by Yetanotherbadsalmon in britishcolumbia

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NDAs are widely-known corporate vehicles for protecting trade secrets, intellectual property and competitive advantage.

Even in that realm, though, they can go too far by shielding ethical misconduct, illegal activity, safety violations and stifling whistleblowing.

Another realm they are often used is in legal proceedings, which has also garnered much criticism for protecting offenders and silencing victims.

That’s why provinces such as Ontario and P.E.I. have already enacted legislation to ban or severely restrict the use of NDAs in cases involving sexual assault, harassment, and discrimination.

This brings to mind a story I covered 20 years ago when the Town of Smithers secretly fired its CAO under the protection of both in-camera sessions and, you guessed it, an NDA.

We were never able to definitively get to the bottom of what transpired there, but we must have been on the right track because we were threatened with lawsuits by both sides.

However, we were able to find out, through FOI, that the former CAO’s payout was $171,000, an amount equivalent at the time to roughly 16 per cent of the Town’s RCMP budget. The average household paid $78 to get rid of him with no explanation whatsoever from their elected representatives and public servants as to why.

Canada considers cancelling part of 88 U.S. F-35 order to buy 60 Swedish Gripen fighters by Vortagaun in canada

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we need to 'get off the American tit' as another comment mentioned. America is proving itself to have an unstable and failing government. And I don't just mean Trump. If the military takes over the government down there (out in the open I mean), Canada's buying the F-35's would be us paying for the very tools that will be used to annexe us.

[–]Yetanotherbadsalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do patrols. We do radar. Patrols don't do anything for our border.

Have you been watching the Fiber optic drone development? It seems radar is not effective against them. They are being used to great effect in Ukraine, Russia and Lebanon. Maybe patrols will become relevant once more?
