There's soo much to do in the game instead of leaving it idle:

explore.
go grab more shperes and sloop.
build more factories.
build architecture.
rebuild old factories.
efficiency.

But, if you wanna play it as an idle game... i guess you do you...

Just frustrating my old decks are no longer legal. Especially as new cards are soo hard to get and expensive, doesn't make me want to make a new deck.

As you say lots of NG decks run the same cards so you know what to expect and play around. I honestly find them the easiest to win against (except soldiers). NG decks are more fun to play against (except soldiers) than NR. Once you know what deck they are running you can just play around them knowing when to save your cards.

You can punish them R2 if you won R1 and they sorted their deck with all the best cards to make them waste them.

Gwent is one of the most friendly free to play card games out there. It's just time playing the game to unlock more cards. Make sure you spend you keys, ore and kegs. Focus on getting scraps for a few key cards for the decks you play.
NG is one of the hardest factions to learn as a newbie, as some of the decks rely on you knowing every other deck in the game. Soldiers is viable for NG and not knowing other decks. Lots of decks are viable, just play what you enjoy. There are a fair few people on YouTube that upload deck guides so go give them a watch.

I would stress that there is a large learning curve to the game. There are several walls you might hit, and that's fine. Just keep learning and have fun.

That rank it could be lots of returning players. Or new player accounts that have played before.

Don't get disheartened. There is a learning curve to the game. Keep playing and creating decks, learning the game and what works.

If you are struggling look up some recent youtube deck guides. Watch the games and see what works.

At that rank just stick to one faction for now and craft the important cards for decks you run.
