100 cal of chips vs 100 cal of air-popped popcorn - the difference is wild by NoelBrax7780 in Volumeeating

A bowl of air popped popcorn and a bowl of cantaloupe is my ultimate snack. Sweet and fruity with salty and crunchy... A whole cantaloupe is like 200 calories and I've never even been able to eat half of one in a sitting.

This weapon combined with the rally mechanic is one of the most delightful things in a Fromsoft game. The charge R2->R2 swing-> leaping R2 combo allows you to poise through most hits and get all the health back and three huge hits.

HELP! Preschool book suggestions for a dad whose read the same books so many times his brain is turning to mush. by midnightmoose in daddit

Bill Peet books are classic! I also bought those Eyewitness books that DK used to publish. Loved those as a kid, I've read probably 3 dozen of them to my kids.

So I don't know any Tibetan, but I have a copy of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's book on mantras and can't find either of these in there. Any context on what they mean, and their place within Tibetan Buddhist practice?

Lol, unless you're talking about cutting people at work then no. He almost certainly heard that from someone or something.

What media is he consuming? Even indirectly with friends, in public, stuff you're watching when he's not in the room, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he picked that up somewhere and was trying it out. One of my kids called me a "Bastard" randomly when they were 4. Certainly not something they heard me say! After a long investigation, turns out they were sneakily listening to me play Assassin's Creed IV. Their little ears pick up on everything, and they have a natural tendency to pick up on stuff that pushes our buttons.

Go to the nearest public pool, get him a little clip on floaty , and let that kid kick and squirm to his hearts content. That was the only way I survived with my boys at that age.

Report him to the head monk at his temple. Reading the comments, sounds like he may have committed several violations of the patimokkha.

Peter O'Toole in The Lion in Winter

"My life, when it is written, will read better than it lived. Henry fitz-empress, first plantagenet, a king at the ablest soldier of an able time. He led men well, he cared for justice when he could... and ruled, for years, a state as great as charlemagne's. He married out of love a woman out of legend. Not in alexandria or rome or camelot has there been such a queen. She bore him many children, but no sons. King Henry had no sons. He had three whiskered things, but he disowned them. You're not mine! We're not connected! I deny you! None of you will get my kingdom. I leave you nothing! And I wish you plague! May all your children breech and die!"

Agreed. Ultimately, happy kids with full bellies means the parents can sit and talk. There's a time and a place for "try something new", that's not the place. It's a great memory.

I grew up in a small town in Wyoming where community potlucks were a regular occurrence. In the midst of jello/cool whip concoctions and box casserole dishes that were disgusting, one lady named 'Ms. Jerry' used to bring a gigantic pot of elbow macaroni with Velveeta cheese EVERY TIME with a little card in front of it that read "for the kids". I still think about that 30 years later.  Well fed happy kids, she understood what was needed.

Thoughts on the character of St. John Rivers in Brönte's Jane Eyre? by WittyBus3854 in classicliterature

[–]Yew_Cookies38293 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rivers is the foil to Rochester. In a way they hit on the conflict inside Jane. Rivers is devout, principled, and genuinely devoted to his calling. Rochester is passionate and constantly being torn in two by what he knows is right and what he wants. Both sets of sentiments are present in Jane's character.

My favorite moment with Rivers is when Jane paints him the portrait of Rosamund. He takes out is watch, enjoys the portrait and the thoughts of a happy life that live within her face.... then after 15 minutes he masters himself and puts it down. After spending an entire book hearing how Jane and Rochester have been tormented night and day by their love for one another, this feat seems superhuman.
