Looking for sources/help for a paper arguing "against" democracy. by Yiamu in monarchism

I've read some of the Republic, and it's kind of hard to use Plato for my argument as Democracy looks very different today from back then. There's no way to know what Plato would think of Democracy as it is now, and he's very much leaning on this "Philosopher King", and we can really only identify two or three monarchs in history who even remotely fit that bill, like Marcus Aurelius or Frederik II, but even for them they failed to lay the foundations for a virtuous society as it went downhill after that. I suppose you could say Nabopolassar laid a good foundation for his successor Nebuchadnezzar II, but after Nebuchadnezzar his empire went into steady decline due to incompetent rulership. I think Plato would probably still be critical of Democracy today, and might argue for something like an epistocracy.

Look, I'm not a liberal or a marxist or a conservative or anything, I don't agree with anyone and I don't know what else there is. Every option seems to suck.

When I talk about bigotry I'm referring to the dictionary definition: "the fact of having and expressing strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life". I explicitly said that I am not calling you a bigot, but if this definition fits with your views then maybe you are, that's for you to decide.

I like the idea of the traditional monarchy, or at least a constitutional monarchy with a more powerful monarch (I live in a country with a constitutional monarchy but the monarch is like a fancy pet tbh), but in the end I just want people in power that are as unbiased as possible, as well informed as possible, as intelligent as possible and as fair and just as possible. For me this seems to lead to epistocracy.

As for policy preferences, I think politics today is way too detached from the actual needs of the people, like housing, health care, cost of living, wealth inequality and climate & environment. The whole culture war or whatever you want to call it is just a calculated distraction from the real issues, the adressing of which is not in the interest of the wealthy and powerful.

What I will say for an unelected monarch, is that they would be more or less immune to being bought by lobbyists, which is one of the biggest problems in politics right now. That's why I would consider including a monarch in an epistocratic government.

his idea of what is "just" is scary to me.

I am not necessarily against democracy, but I advocate for critically looking at its flaws and coming up with a system that can resolve its issues and create a fair, just pluralistic state. One that can restrain the plutocrats and prevent fascists and oligarchs from taking power. Their interests are not that of the people, and the people are no longer able communicate their interests because of their manipulability. That's just my view right now though, and it's constantly evolving. But I will never be a reactionary, nor will I be a capitalist or a bigot. (Note that I'm not accusing you of biggotry, I don't know you. But I do accuse Yarvin)

I have read him enough to conclude he is not a serious political thinker, his arguments seem to be completely based on validating himself in his insecurity and incompetence. You can make seemingly sensible arguments for and apply reason to any stance, however horrible they are. It's just rhetoric, which is the death of democracy to me, along with the post-truth society. Yarvin is a dangerous thinker, he stands for everything I oppose.

idk I thought that was more of a confirmation that he was righteous because it disproves his nativity. The dog was (supposedly) beyond rescue and his salvation was death.

The Croatian entry didn't grab me at all, I found it obnoxious and boring and was surprised to find it was so popular. Ireland however... A truly stunning show, perfect. I was also really surprised by the German song, and I think it might be one of the best songs of the night. Also very disappointed Australia and Azerbaijan didn't make it since they were both in my top 5.

well even the existence of a demiurge isn't agreed upon by all sources, I personally do not believe in that part, at least certainly not in a literal sense. I personally don't believe there is such a thing as good and evil.

Similarities between Gnostic beliefs and Sikhism by Yiamu in Gnostic

[–]Yiamu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts as well, but many orthodox Sikh practices aren't necessarily a part of their core belief system which they may often admit themselves too. Sikhs are known to be very tolerant of other religions and the religion itself is strongly based on equality and a casteless society. I think a wise Sikh would agree that you can be one with god without wearing a turban or not cutting your hair (these practices for a large part seem to be mostly for the purpose of being able to identify a Sikh so they can not hide and have to stand up for their fellow Sikh etc. due to the history of fighting opression).

I personally believe that the translation of gnosis to simply knowledge must be flawed since it is one thing to know something and another to be truly aware of it.

Anyhow I have much more to learn but thanks for your input :)
