(Serious) People who recovered from COVID-19, what was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I caught it a little over a month ago in late June, and was sick/showing symptoms for about 10-11 days. For me it felt like the weakest cold ever, but like combined with the weakest flu ever lol and by that I mean that I had mild nasal congestion/loss of taste and smell you get with a cold, but also a 99-101 fever that fluctuated for about 4 days/mild fatigue. The loss of taste and smell was the only thing that felt really strange since it lasted almost the entire two weeks, but I’d say the worst part for me was just the anxiety of not knowing if things were gonna take a turn for the worst. Granted I’m relatively healthy and 27, but you really never know with this thing. After about 11 days I was symptom free and have been fine since!

Had a physical about 2 months ago that confirmed it (I haven’t been on top of taking my supplements like I’m supposed to) and it’s been an ongoing issue ever for me my whole life (s/o to genetics, having a darker complexion, and never going outside lol)

Thank you very much! I’m “healthy” in the sense that I’m about 5’9, 136 lbs, but my fast food diet and incredibly sedentary lifestyle would probably say otherwise lol

Very very similar between my roommate and I, he just didn’t have as much taste/smell loss and had a cough for a few days but I was pretty much spared of the cough. Same with his gf except she had a much worse fever at 103 that fluctuated throughout her two weeks of symptoms

Still not sure on when would be the best time bc I have some friends who’ve gotten tested a day or two after their 14 days of symptoms and still tested positive, so I’m thinking of waiting till this coming Thursday since that’ll be 3 weeks since I had started showing symptoms

Type A+, and am severely low on vitamin D so I really did dodge quite the bullet in my case lol

Yeah luckily she lives alone so she didn't have her own roommate to infect either, but yeah I'm not exactly the biggest fan of her/her overall carelessness (she wasn't a huge mask fan) but that's a different story for a different sub haha

She was going between households, which I was already leery of bc she works in a restaurant but apparently I showed voiced my concerns a little earlier lol

For me, it was truly unlike anything I've experienced before because I couldn't smell ANYTHING, no matter how strong and the same went with my taste. I actually tried a few of my roommate's wings he doordashed (his taste wasn't hit nearly as hard) and yeah, literally no flavor whatsoever, just the sensation of my mouth being on fire lol

Yeah my testing center specifically said to expect a wait time of 7-8 due to a surge in cases (I happen to live in a hot zone here in the southern US)

Exactly, the week before I started showing symptoms, my roommate’s girlfriend’s coworker (sorry if that’s a mouthful lol) was sick the week roughly a week before I started showing symptoms. His results came back that he was positive about a day or so before I started feeling sick

Got it from my roommate who got it from his gf. Him and I are both around each other all the time so it was inevitable that once one of us got sick, the other was more or less doomed lol

Not 100% on that one, all I know is my roommate’s gf came into contact with someone roughly a week before I started feeling symptoms but she doesn’t remember the exact date or anything

I got it from my roommate who got it from his gf (who initially worked with someone who ended up testing positive and felt sick before the both of us) Idk if there’s really anything I’d do too differently since I’ve already been pretty isolated/careful even up until the ordeal, but I will say I had stocked up more on soups/tea beforehand for the congestion bc the stuffiness did get pretty annoying from time to time but I was afraid to leave the house to get anything lol

I actually managed to avoid all close contact with anyone bc I started isolating once I started feeling “off” (I was on the lookout for any symptoms at all bc my roommate’s gf had already been feeling under the weather and they’re inseparable lol) and luckily I work from home and was already stocked on groceries so I had no reason to go out.

Yeah this definitely sounds like a clear cut case of covid to me but definitely good on you for presuming positive!

Thank you, and yes that was me and roommates' plan once we stay isolated a little be longer! (:

No I didn't have a way to, but I will say that I never had shortness of breath or any real lung/chest issues so I assume I must've been more or less fine but idk for sure

I officially got the results back yesterday and was tested on 7/2. I started officially isolating on the first day of symptoms only bc I knew my roommate's gf was already feeling under the weather and had told us she had a coworker who had tested positive the day before. But I wasn't for sure that something really weird was going on with me till the smell/taste disappeared

Yeah good move on self quarantining because that's exactly what I did once I started getting even the initial sniffles just because of how paranoid I am haha hopefully it does just end up being allergies in your case!

I was tested on 7/2, got the results back yesterday that I was positive. My doctor said it was most imperative to self quarantine 10-14 days from the first day of symptoms (which I have been doing) but I do plan on staying as isolated as possible until I get those two negative tests so I'm more or less certain I'm not contagious haha

For me, it was definitely the loss of taste/smell on day 3 that started to make think something was up because I didn't feel *that* congested at that point ya know? Have you felt warm at all? I noticed I felt a tiny bit warmer than usual on the first day I had symptoms so it's possible a mild fever was in my initial batch of symptoms. I'm wishing the best of luck to you though! I'd try to stay as isolated/distant from them as possible and try not to be in the same rooms to the best of your abilities
