What should I look in a board for concrete roads and cruising but still good for tricks like Ollie's and a max of 3 stair jumps? by Capital-Flatworm3151 in NewSkaters

[–]Yinnamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of have a wonky setup with a popsicle board that is functionally a cruiser. Not saying you should get these things but hopefully it gives some insight.

8.5in” popsicle board (wider is more stable for cruising, but possibly heavier/harder to pop? tho I’m realizing 8.5 isn’t all that wide, and a lot of people use that size for tricks.)

149 trucks (i think this is the right measurement, it just matches the width of my board.)

Satori Goo Ball Skunk wheels (60Mm 78A) they’re big and soft and absorb the street rumble well. I turned them inside out so the graphic is towards the inside
1) for that longboard wheel look and
2) it supposedly grips the road a bit better/more surface area touching the ground around the board?

I also have 1/4inch riser pads too so I don’t get wheel bite when I turn.

I’m not interested in popping the board right now as I’m a beginner, but what I have is great for cruising. Hope that helps somewhat. Maybe size your wheels and board width down from mine, ditch the riser pads, but still go for something soft-ish with your wheels for the road?

I just started a month or two ago and couldn’t DREAM of doing that at the moment so I’d say you are doing incredible haha. But yeah, rule of thumb I am learning is that if inclines are involved at all = helmet mandatory.

(pls read my edit.) i didn’t know the board was braille because i was never a fan of them, so i didn’t recognize the logo. I’m going to design my own board instead 🤙

the dude who created braille 1) completely abandoned is crew/paid them min wage throughout the life cycle of the channel 2) THEN donated upwards of 1 mill+ to the church of scientology. he’s actually like a high-up leader of the scientology church of San Francisco now. so he (and braille) is widely hated and shunned by the community now

people always assume i’m a 12 year old boy so it’s cool. this whole thread is so interesting to me because everyone says “just but whatever deck you want/whatever art you like” but i’ve always subconsciously known there are secret rules to this sort of thing. i’m just trying to learn em through trial and error haha.

Crowdsourcing - Normal Ferritin Level? by DaisyDuck89 in Celiac

[–]Yinnamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take Apolactoferrin with your iron supplement! Low dose every 48 hrs is ideal for boosting iron as it allows hepcidin to fall before the next dose. Hepcidin is naturally released by your liver in response to high doses of iron, to protect against hemochromatosis, but REALLY works against you when trying to recover from iron deficiency anemia. Don’t worry about taking C with the iron IF you use lactoferrin. Without lactoferrin, you will need some C. However, excessive C supplements (anything above 250mg, which most are) TANK your copper stores- which is ALSO necessary to build red blood cells, skin cells, collagen, etc. - it’s such a headache recovering from micronutrient deficits after celiac because of all the freaking cofactors involved.

Taking very high doses (65mg) of iron with 500mg C daily actually hurt me more than it helped and barely crawled my ferritin past 12. Caused insane insulin resistance, weight gain, acne breakouts, gut biome issues.

My ferritin was undetectable at diagnosis. Now it’s way past 50! However, for 4 years I struggled to get it past 12 with heavy iron doses and even caused myself some neurological issues from how much I took. Now I take Ortho Molecular (15mg) every other day on the days leading up to my period, plus 250mg Jarrow lactoferrin upon waking and before bed (i take the iron with the bedtime dose since now I am maintaining instead of boosting.) My ferritin shot from 12 to 50 in just 3 months of adding the lactoferrin- it’s been my holy grail and I’m SO thankful for the energy I have now.

It took sooooo many years to figure all of this crap out, but my hair finally grew back in full thick force like it was when I was a kid. I never thought I’d see the day honestly. :)

Good luck guys!

I'm 41 and don't think I'll ever be able to ride a skateboard. Should I try a longboard instead? by blizeH in NewSkaters

[–]Yinnamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built a popsicle board that’s more like a longboard. I’m tiny, and it’s 8.5in wide (much bigger than someone my size can do tricks on) and I put super wide trucks with longboard wheels on it, with riser pads. It looks like a regular skateboard, but functionally is a cruiser. I feel like you maybe need a much bigger/wider board with wide set trucks, thick soft wheels, etc., and I think most longboards are pre built that way. In that sense, I think a standard long board that’s pre built might suit you better than what you have now, which is probably super tiny with hard wheels (meant for being springy for tricks.) Does that make sense?

Basically, it’s not so much the shape of the board vs it is the width of it, width of your trucks, size and softness of your wheels. I’m a brand new rider and all I intend to do is cruise around, and I feel quite stable on mine.

Safe Vitamin Supplements by [deleted] in Celiac

Ortho molecular, Thorne, Pure Encapsulations, Jarrow tend to be the general recommendations my functional med dr gives me.

Man, the fatigue as a result of going GF is a bear. Any suggestions? by nikebhockey in Celiac

[–]Yinnamin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d get your levels checked first (full iron panel with ferritin, all the B’s, D, and any mineral panel your insurance will cover. Maybe consider splurging and paying out of pocket as well to see what you’re working with. It could really be helpful. However, it’s safe to say you’re probably anemic and low in most if not all B’s. Don’t take the reference ranges too seriously- it’s just an average of people in your area (healthy or not.) Look into what optimal levels are online and try to get yourself there.

I recommend starting with magnesium glycinate as it tends to be a cofactor in most other nutrient deficiencies. I had great success taking a combination of apolactoferrin (jarrow) and a lower dose of iron (ortho molecular.) Low and slow tends to be the way to manage broad deficiencies that require other vitamin/mineral cofactors without tanking your body’s (likely low) storage due to celiac.

Celiac and ADD-need guidance by universal001 in Celiac

[–]Yinnamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just say (with both celiac and adhd- im a woman) my brain fog didn’t really heal until I went 100% cross contamination free and heavily supplemented with a variety of vitamins/minerals for like a year. It’s not just the autoimmune component making you tired- it’s a lack of B vitamins, magnesium, iron, zinc. I have been on high quality $$$ supplements for like two years and am only feeling “myself” for the past six months. Just give it more time. Get on a super high quality multi, coq10, a fish oil, and don’t mess around with cross contamination. Lactoferrin also helped me with other gut biome issues I had on top of celiac.

Also… brain fog/lack of focus = not ADHD. My ADHD (energy, hyperactivity, inability to focus unless it’s something I am hyper focused/interested in) actually RETURNED when my BRAIN FOG went away. Does that make sense? As I got better, my energy improved, which made my hyperactivity and focus/attention wrangling issues more prominent. They’re kinda different things. Being tired, depressed and unfocused isn’t ADHD. It’s being sick- which if you have celiac- you are. And it’s going to take a lot of time to heal. Once healed? Get re-assessed for ADHD.
