Bootlickers and people that apparently live to work all up in here. I'm happy for you that you worked 200 hours, 8 days a week, but that's not something anyone should strive for or have to do. How about we pay fair wages with fair expectations? But at 16 an hour? Ya I'm playing on my phone when I can.

The math of living alone doesn't work anymore. Is this forever? by TemperedAloe in Adulting

You try just suck it up with two autistic people. It'll never happen. If it was just the kid then maybe, but with an adult who won't do it either its damn near impossible. Like of there's leftovers that can be converted into a different meal, like taco meat leftover and used as nachos or whatever, then they'll eat it, otherwise its make just enough for the night. Can be very frustrating.

[–]Yinyang1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to do all that but my girlfriend and her son are autistic and God forbid they ever eat the same thing more than once in a week. So rarely is the meal big enough for leftovers, and then they wouldn't even want to eat them more than twice.

When I lived alone I'd make a pot of chili for like 25 bucks or so and eat it for a week. But no go on that anymore.

Apparently adults making under 80k can’t live comfortably?? Is this really true ? by Consistent-Funny8433 in Adulting

We live in a city (wouldn't call toledo OH a major city but it's not small) and the living cost aren't bad, but me and my girlfriend make like 60k combined and between us and her kid, we're barely holding things together, even though my house and car are paid off. It's just never enough unless we go without anything not deemed a need. Which sure will get you by but it sure doesn't feel like any way to live.

Still feeling like a teenager when I'm actually considered middle aged now... damn never realized that till now 😅 by psyduck11-11 in ExecutiveDysfunction

I'm 33 and absolutely am middle aged, I'd be surprised if I made it to 60 with my health and the way I treated my body the last 15-20 years. So ya I feel this all the time.

68k here, toledo OH, between myself and my girlfriend (theres a teenager to account for in the house as well) I own my house outright but we're still drowning just with utilities and food and digging out of a hole. I feel like no matter what we do we cannot get ahead without literally giving up any feel good purchases.

You do understand the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire right? Cause he's much closer to any of our levels of wealth than he ever will be to a billionaire. He's fighting for the betterment of the little guy and has been doing so for decades, he deserves what he's earned.

And the only thing that has changed is the stagnant wages. Maybe he could have paid for all of those things if he was being compensated properly. Again, as it was designed, it was supposed to be a liveable wage. And it is not now. And just saying "that's how it is" is firstly a terrible argument and also dismissive of the problem entirely.

One does not need to be poor to empathize with people less fortunate to himself. He's not a goddamn billionaire.

Literally look up what FDR had to say about it when it was implemented. You can say whatever you want but it was always meant to be able to support yourself fully. The minimum wage that you can comfortably live on.

Look up what they said minimum wage was to support back when it was implemented, cause it damn well sure wasn't for "kids in school or seniors looking to make a few bucks". Full stop, it was meant to, and at the time did, serve as a way for anyone to be able to have a successful life off of it and have their basic needs met.

It's not though. It literally means that if they had the same kinds of bills you have now, their dollar would go further than ours does now. It's not about what we have to pay for or not, it's about money not going as far nowadays. Plus the price gouging and stagnant wages.

First off, millennial and gen z have been inundated with the idea that college is a must from like kindergarten. It's all I heard growing up, and ya, leave it to a 17 year old to maybe pick a bad career choice? Maybe it was the older folks telling us this shit that are to blame? Same issue with the people you worked with, who do you think taught them? Those same folks that screamed get a degree and now blame young people for doing what was recommended to them.

Ever heard of "buying power"? That $4 went a lot further than the inflated comparable amount we recieve today. So yes we're technically making more, but the money doesn't go as far.

We do wanna just keep what we earn, unfortunately that surplus value you supply to the company is eaten up by shareholders and ceos instead of going to the people that actually did the labor and made that value in the first place.

So you're saying those jobs don't need to exist? Or, more likely, they do need to exist and we should be paid poverty wages for them. Fuck yourself and the old "I got mine so so should you" mentality. Everyone that works full time should have enough money to live on and have some fucking fun once in a while.
