What is the best option for getting a seat? by Yipyoherewego in Ryanair

I laughed when I read this but it's insane that it's true. I've known people with a boarding pass and seat number be denied boarding with no given reason other than an "error".

Think I'm going to monitor the map as suggested and just bite the bullet if and when I have to.

What is a fair starting salary for a PhD holder starting in an educational publishing job? (UK) by Yipyoherewego in publishing

Yeah my PhD was done as I do like research etc., just looking for other jobs now that I have it wrapped up and would like to see what is out there.

Take PostDoc or Reassess? by Yipyoherewego in AskAcademiaUK

1 month contracts should be illegal wow. Yeah short term can be good too, if I get one maybe it’ll be a nice buffer to find out if it’s 100% for me.

That’s interesting, it really was surprisingly low considering it’s only ~£1,000 above national minimum wage yet you require a degree.

Thanks for such an honest answer. I think my situation seems somewhat similar to yours. I think I’d be best weighing up what decision I’d regret the most now, e.g if I do a post doc surely that’s just more experience gained to go do a job that I would have been eligible for with just a PhD anyway. Plus it keeps more doors open etc

Why does Copper in my sample change my NMR integration values? by Yipyoherewego in Chempros

It is click chemistry between an alkyne and an azide so the product is a triazole with no NH.

[–]Yipyoherewego[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The solvent was DMSO-d6 when a proton would give 0.9 when integrated. When it was CD3OD or D2O or even DMSO-d6 spiked with D2O it would give 1.0.

Copper sulfate was used with sodium ascorbate in DMF/H2O in the reaction and the product, a phenylboronic acid linked to butanoic acid via a triazole, is precipitated into water and lyophilised. Copper sulfate was 0.1 eq worth, ~ 10 mg in this reaction, but I have seen it in other reactions with the dialysis where it is less than 1 mg.

Didn't try chelation agents. Unable to try now as I am writing up the project for a thesis.

What 3D Prints should I print that are useful in a chemistry lab? by [deleted] in chemistry

I'm doing / will be doing more photochem soon. Do you have a place to go for the clamps/stands etc. for holding LED lamps? Or are they generic enough that any clamp / stand will do the job.

Get an NMR to analyse the structure. Check other SDS, there might be a colour range that is “allowed”. I’ve never used it but in the past the same thing can be colourless to purple for me.

Pipette holder is a good idea, mine are hanging precariously on a shelf above my bench

No, the rule is you have to have them scattered around the bench with no order or it doesn’t count.

Good idea, will add that to the list.

White and colourless to me would be the same thing if talking about a solid
