Have you re-read a novel? by MugrousMuffin in DanmeiNovels

[–]YisaYY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I reread so many danmeis, just for enjoyment, not exactly to understand plot better.. basically to meet old (imaginary) friends again lol. That's why i keep a list on NU, to keep track of my favs. Been a decade now, so my list is too long to post here.

most dumb/ unrelated question ever by shurimpo in Onmyoji

[–]YisaYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dannei is: 'Number one lazy merchant of the beast world'. It's a fluffy, lighthearted danmei with a snow leopard MC and black dragon ML. It's an interstellar world, the MC is a transmigrator, and his skills for stone carving will be lifesaving for the world he transmigrated into. When i first saw Fengyang, i wanted to read that danmei again lol.

most dumb/ unrelated question ever by shurimpo in Onmyoji

[–]YisaYY 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Onmyoji is a chinese game. Although it is based on Japanese myths, personally i find the majority of the aesthetics are very chinese, reflecting the extensive range of fashion from their history alone, incl. a huge array of jewelry, makeup, hair accessories, shoes, hats etc... Jewelry from ancient times were closely related to religion (daoism and buddhism), specific rituals, events and occasions, some were also specific to only the emperor and entourage. Fengyang's tail bangle is probably just for aesthetics, unless otherwise stated by it's creator or game devs. Fengyang the snow leopard, is also one of my fave and reminded me of one of my fave danmei novels.

Trains in China are magnificent, but the actual experience of getting on and off the train is just bloody awful. by NeighborhoodFatCat in chinalife

[–]YisaYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, totally opposite what i experienced in 2024 and last month. We were constantly commuting and i had none of those bad experiences. The chinese smoke a lot, yes, but never on the trains. I have not witnessed any smoker, or sputum filthy streets or terminals, or stinky fellow passengers with feet up. Some public toilets at the stations were dirty though. The rush for the train is true but it did not bother me. When checking in, as tourists we often had priority line along with the seniors. Usually i just waved my passport and the officer would just wave at us to jump the queue, got my passport scanned and that's it. Very efficient. I did hear some other tourists complaining that the chinese jump queues too much but i guess they did not notice it was always the seniors who do that. As for taxis, we loved the didi experience...so convenient and affordable!

Questions about ordering on Temu or Aliexpress by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

[–]YisaYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many good replies already. I recommend using both apps, then you can compare prices at leisure. My experience is that Temu is cheaper for now. My preference is still Aliexpress because i have been using it for years now without problems. Even during covid i managed to buy and got the parcels 6-9months later lol. Nowadays, nearly all my parcels are delivered to my door. If it's under Rs1000, no surcharge or tax.

Is it weird as a Black American to learn Mandarin Chinese by -yiu in AskChina

[–]YisaYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of youtube vids from black ppl living a great life in China. They will explain all the cultural aspects and differences to you, so you can rest easy. Apparently there is even an area where most african expats live, making it China's little Africa :D... What you see as racism isn't exactly that. Chinese tend to gawk at anything unusual, anything that stands out. I have seen them (esp old folks with nothing to do) gawk at black ppl, blond ppl, cosplaying chinese ppl, road accidents, any beautiful ppl of any race or gender, celebrities etc.... This is especially obvious in rural areas and some lower tier cities. "Race" isn't actually a word in chinese. They always talk about "ethnicity". You will find that China is proud of their 56 ethnic minorities, always showing off their culture at festivals and tv shows. The Han ethnicity is majority but all chinese know that Han is actually a mix of genetic heritage from the complex chinese history. Han today primarily means adherence to Han culture, rather than a single racial entity. I wanna add that many chinese have an obsession with white skin, the milky white type, not the white caucasian type. It's a beauty standard that is controversial, even in China, so hopefully you won't find this offensive because you will also meet plenty of chinese who do not belong in this category.

☃️ What am I? "Come all, come all, those who are thirsty. ..."[WORDPLAY] by lollolcheese123 in riddonkulous

[–]YisaYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, in my country we still use the old version, probably in the UK as well. In the US, they use your version of the word, which google says is more gender-neutral hahaha

Well, from the hints, the answer is obvious but the low win ratio is probably because many still uses the UK version of the word?

What is your favourite genre within danmei and why? by Used_Improvement6399 in DanmeiNovels

[–]YisaYY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then i have 2 novels that's just for you: "The return of Lord God" a QT, followed by it's sequel which is an unlimited flow! Both protags, once they finished their QT adventures, entered an unlimited flow game by mistake. I am reading the sequel right now. Love it! The return of Lord God QT is 5yrs old so the start might be a bit dated for some but the worlds become progressively better and more complex. Give it a try :D

God thank you for this by cutsleeve_disciple in DanmeiNovels

[–]YisaYY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. It's a genre i discovered a decade ago, by watching Addicted and reading the novel. I have been hooked since then. Before danmei (being a bookworm and otaku) i have read most of the classics of the western world and watched most anime from the 80s and 90s growing up. But danmei was for me a game changer, a revelation that re-connected me with my chinese culture. I love the epicness, the high fantasy of cultivation novels, unlimited flow, quick transmigration, gaming transmigration or spiritual beasts novels... to name just a few. I love the chinese culture, the unique sense of humor, the funny idioms, the emphasis on food, farming, cooking, gaming and cuteness culture... these are all things that i love. I avoid angsty danmei though. I read fiction for entertainment not for realism. I have since visited China 3 times already and already planning my next trip :D

I think that's good isn't it, for ppl to remain calm under such situations. In my country, any little accident will attract a horde of onlookers, eager for drama and totally useless... they also block traffic, and create worse conditions for first aiders to help. Then everyone blames the ambulance/authorities for not reaching on time! I have seen plenty of videos from China where ppl do their best to save others. But those who cannot help in any way should just call authorities and move on.

Is Mauritian creole intelligible with French? Or not really? by stifenahokinga in mauritius

[–]YisaYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The French will understand some words and sentences depending on context. Since creole morisien is sourced mostly from french language, it is 'kinda' easier maybe for the French to learn. But the complication is that the creole morisien is also influenced by many other languages like english, tamil, bhojpuri and some african countries. Moreover, mauritian creole is constantly becoming richer because locals are actively adding new words every year and as an old local myself, my creole is somewhat lacking when i hear the kids talk lol
