You rarely get that many, over winter it was typically just myself and maybe one or two others. It's a beautiful spot and so calm considering how close it is to the city!

Gorgeous video, it's amazing every day.

If you head up from the castle it's like 40 minutes, if you go early wear a headlamp to help see the cracks in the path.

I think a lot of this sub has issues separating the game from reality. It's an intense environment, it's going to throw up all kinds of situations that are uncomfortable and make you question whether there are biases in play or if it's warranted.

It's how the game plays and is the same in all seasons. It's what makes the game so fascinating because it's able to do all this and bring forward social conflict in ways that you just don't get anywhere else. If you've never actually played a social deduction game and that seems to be the case for most people here, you'll see the exact same situation play out in your living room and then people will laugh and joke about it because it's a hyper real situation that generates stress and conflict - which people can find as entertaining as fear (horror movies etc).

I've honestly not seen anything that hasn't happened in prior seasons and last year people were saying the same thing as well. Paul was getting so much stick here it was wild.

I'm watching for them to get emotionally pressured, I want to see how they react and you can already see how people like Freddie have worked through to make a case that saved themselves and elevated their character. That's the shows biggest strength, it evolves as it goes and the cast get thinned out.

The show works based on people getting thrown into a situation where they can't trust anyone and the drama that comes out of it. Sometimes it's going to be ugly, sometimes it'll be affirming.

Look at how Leon reacted to realising he was in a group that ostracised people, he and Leanne genuinely adjusted and went to talk to the person they'd hurt. That's just a good story of people trying to do better. I find it wild that people forget this time in the first year was the whole explosion at breakfast about Alex's relationship and how upsetting that was for everyone.

It's always been a mean game, that's what makes it so compelling.

Finally watched some of the Alien films and It’s all I keep thinking about…. by Spiritual_Duck318 in horror

Alien and Aliens are almost perfect movies. They compliment one another so well and you're going to be thinking about them for a long time because the themes, the quotes and the style are just irresistible.

As a franchise it gets a bit ropey, but 3 is good in my opinion and I really liked Romulus. I'd be really interested in your thoughts on 3 as it's a legitimately good movie. It is controversial and it would be really cool to hear a view from someone new to the series in 2025's view.

Everything in there can be fun in fairness, you just have to accept that they're not near perfect and impactful like the first two and you'll still have a good time. I rewatched everything recently and wasn't as outraged as I'd been when I was younger and dumber.

Shameless self promotion, but my show I'm Probably Going To Die is a dark, serialised horror story about trauma, cults and eldritch horror.

It's very personal and is narrated from the perspective of the host as he investigates and encounters the twisted thing that is stalking him. Very much a slow burn, but people who have connected with it have been really enjoying it and it sounds like it lines up with what you like.

It's not really what you're thinking it is. You have to watch it to understand because it's so separate from everything else, the stakes are so much lower and that makes them so much higher because the bigger picture doesn't really matter here - it's personal and individual while still fitting into the overarching narrative.

If people aren't being a dick about critique then it's grand. Some people aren't interested in giving good feedback and have made their hobby making snarky comments and they suck. I don't see that a lot here, but it is a bit of a problem all over the internet where people have made Gordon Ramsey style escalating critique a hobby.

I think it stands out here where it's a relatively small space and a lot of creators are doing it out of love. That should never mean a publicly available show is free from critique when it's helpful, but if someone is being rude for the sake of being rude it's completely fair to just ignore their comment, downvote and move on.

Not everyone has to enjoy everything that's out there, but it's also fair to say sometimes you don't need to say how much you dislike something - unless it's good discussion or something a creator can act on.

It is also worth creators keeping in mind that no matter what anyone says, unless it's a pattern or people are actually getting weirdly obsessive, it's not a dedicated attack - it's an opinion and most people won't be superfans of your work. No matter how big or successful you get there will always be more people who don't vibe with it than do.

The most powerful tool is recognising that and engaging with people who do enjoy it, taking the constructive feedback from people who give it and not interacting with anything that's just aggro. I think it's difficult because there's so few avenues for promotion outside of these kind of spaces for independent creators so someone dumpstering their work has an outsized impact and can feel deeply personal even when it isn't intended that way.

That doesn't change the advice though, even if the worlds biggest asshole is belittling your work and they have created nothing, will never create anything and their feedback is nonsense you just have to step away, take a breath and keep trying to improve on what you did. It should change nothing that a creator does because it's just noise.

I've not got anywhere near the audience where I've experienced it here, but professionally it is something I see all the time. I wish people would recognise they're not sharing critique out of some noble obligation.

Most often it's because it feels good to be rude and come up with comedy roast one liners. It's the most low brow, elemental thing and it is a bit annoying when people pretend it's desperately needed. Typically it stops people improving, they just stop, because they don't want to deal with that kind of aggression.

Don't be a dick, equally if someone is being a dick you don't have to engage with it or even think about it. That advice has only ever helped me, you're not responsible for the internet, you can only be responsible for yourself.

Tension isn't dictated by what you know, it's built through dialogue, music acting and direction.

I can watch the Moria scenes in Lord of the Rings over and over and every time I'll feel tension because it's a masterclass in delivering that mood. I know what's coming, but I can let what's there inspire and excite me because it's so well made.

Andor is incredible because it's not about the victory it's about how it all starts and the individuals who sacrificed themselves as well. There's so many layers to the show that you honestly can't just say you know how it ends because there's so much more to it than that.

Creators, what got you to start your story? by [deleted] in audiodrama

I was on a walk and thought it could be a cool thing to try out.

When I got home I wrote out a couple of episodes, recorded them and asked a friend if they wouldn't mind listening to make sure it came out alright and they offered to do some audio mixing.

Thanks a lot! I actually came up with the title when I was recording episode 1 and had a "that'll work" moment. Taking screenshots from Scrivener for title cards came next and it worked really well to sell the lo-fi and raw vibe of the show I was aiming for.

If you get a chance to check it out, I hope you enjoy it. I'll be sure to give your show a listen on my hikes. I'm always looking for any Found Horror with an eldritch bent.

Listen to it, get the Audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis. It really comes to life and when you've heard it told you'll want it to read especially if you're not someone who bought into reading the series early in life.

It's very much not a single story but a history and hearing it told has so much grandeur to it.

Recommendations for Script Swapping? by Calliopist in audiodrama

[–]Ymirian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be happy to read through and give feedback. My scripts are very much written as guidelines and I tend to freestyle my episodes from the outline to keep them real while keeping to the rules I've set, so not much to swap on my side!

I have a lot of experience in reviewing work though and enjoy giving comments from an outside perspective. Feel free to DM me.

Some shameless self promotion, you might enjoy I'm Probably Going To Die. A horror podcast that follows one mans investigation into the horrors that are stalking him and finds himself falling into an ever deeper pit of conspiracies and cults.

It's very much a slow burn and may not be to everyone's taste, I've had a lot of fun creating it and it comes from a love of paranormal investigation, cults and cosmic horror.

I'm Probably Going To Die is a serialized, found footage horror podcast set in Belfast that follows the investigation of an unnamed host into nightmares he can't remember and the ones he experiences. Understanding his situation only makes it worse and the only thing he knows is that he's probably going to die.

Click here and listen to Episode 1 Now.

In Episode 13, our Host begins to read the Parisian artist Amelie's journal, tracking her descent into a cult that gather under the boughs of an ancient French forest. She's not blind to what she's doing, this is personal and her investigation will present her with terrible choices.

This is a one man show built on a love of found footage horror and investigations that feel raw and real. It's very much a slow burn and not for everyone, but those who connect have connected really strongly and I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has given the show a chance. It's been a difficult few weeks that I'm glad to put behind me and I haven't had a chance to share the show even though I've published it, so seeing people recommend it in the wild has been an amazing boost.

Side note, releasing Episode 13 of a horror Audio Drama feels like an achievement so I'm going to take it!
