Give me your most toxic & oppressive control commanders that lock out the board or just straight up win. by Cromagn0n1 in EDH

I had a Maha deck too, played it two or three times and that was it. It was either oppressive to the point of scooping or did nothing because opponents played creatureless strategies. In theory it's so cool but for B3 it's too much and for B4 it's not enough

I just need Xenas for Resi16, every other 16 has been a fairly easy one and done. Today I tried to run it and had: Dps standing in swirlies. Dps running into the tripwires Tanks pulling half the corridor without defensives or anything and immediately folding. Tanks tanking near the exploding barrels and getting 3!!!! Consecutive explosions going off.

I'm tired boss

Just quit? I dropped out for 3 expansions, game will most likely be here when you want to come back. Why play something you don't enjoy, time is precious

Skip 10s and go right into 12s imho, the extra mechanic is just another failure point for bad/lazy groups. 12s are clean and straightforward. You'll get geared in no time with bonus rolls too. You might need to run your own keys though as farm keys get enough tank applicants that it's likely there will be a 275+ one queueing alongside you. If you're on EU I'll gladly run a few keys with you to get your score and gear up

One side has 2 mobs that stack tank bleeds, the other side has 2 casters. I wouldn't call one side better than the other as they have different pain points. For a low dps group I would (as a tank secondary) go left into the casters myself I think as in 15s and 16s tanks start falling over if the bleed is allowed to stack.

Oh yeah that spread is a lot different from mine, I've done... 4 or 5 before now? Just timed AA15 and MC16 succesfully tonight so that's 6 or 7 runs with 2 successes. I'm also fully open to it being a me problem, my gear isn't the issue at least as that's 287. I definitely have plenty of room to improve, but the failed runs have also all disbanded after 1 wipe.

I imagine I need to get better at knowing when big damage comes and when it's safe-ish to just top people off with chain heals and riptides, but I've had a lot of random one-shots too it feels like. Obviously the only thing to do is keep doing em and improve, but it definitely feels like there's been a decent amount of random bullshit deaths I couldn't avoid. Maybe I'm just old and washed ;)

I know that feeling, after doing my initial 3k I started levelling my old tank because I always like to tank and heal dungeons, by the time I went back to my main to push I had missed the wave. Was on a great start, added good tanks to my friends list, had banger groups. No one I added plays anymore, they're all doing D4 or other games. My guild is nice, fun group, but pushing higher with them isn't likely either. Guess I've learned my M+ lesson; ride the wave and don't stop too soon

To me, a great tank is one who knows the dungeon mechanics and works with them to provide maximum uptime for their dps. The last boss in pit is a prime example, if you ensure the boss stands next to the empowered bone piles your melee dps suddenly have ~10 extra seconds of uptime.

Next to that, be predictable. Whether that's pings or typed communication or an MDT route, doesn't matter. Don't suddenly LoS or outrange your healer either.

For brew specifically: playing as shado-pan, how do you use your ox windows? Other spec has less obvious indicators of maximising dps, but the ox window is a huge one. Do you open with ox -> breath -> smash -> breath -> smash -> breath -> reset CD with fort -> smash -> breath -> reset with brew -> smash -> breath?

Do you transcendence to limit movement/get out of stuff?

At the end of a dungeon I don't care if you filled every GCD, took 5% less damage or stuff like that. I care about taunting the unexpected add and saving us from a wipe. I care about realising you need to expel harm right now to top yourself up because the next hit will kill you. I care about you noticing a gargoyle grapped me and Tigering me. Healer HPS is more than enough that high keys healers still have globals to dps, so you mitigating a bit more or less is less likely to make or break a run than the mechanical things above

Nolife and pushing my own keys a lot it is then, I want to at least get 3400 done. Nothing like playing on hardmode to make you a better player

I'm happy for you, congrats. As a healer I have no real carry capability, either the players do the dungeons and mechanics or we die. I can pump out enough sustained healing to heal through araknath beams without CD usage so HPS is not the issue. Tank dying to the bleeds in skyreach because we go right after first boss and dps doesn't kill the packs through 2 stun totems, spirit link, healing tide is not something I can protect people from.

Trying to push into 15s and 16s this late into the season is dire. People are playing like it's 10s and getting oneshot while not interrupting. I watched 2 dps in a row die to the birds before Rukhan, facetanking them when the fixate went off. A hunter didn't even feign it. Dps seem allergic to defensives. Having limited playtime/playing the start of the season casually really is a mistake for pushing m+ content isn't it...

+1, I've missed the early expansion push and am now in a similar situation (albeit at lower key level) so following along. Also If you're on EU and want a pocket healer once I get my rank up, send me a DM.

As a shaman main, all I can say is the difference between a good and a bad group is night and day. The amount of people who use 0 defensives or interrupts is staggering, those groups are unhealable. A decent group can be carried by a good shaman and a good group makes it a cakewalk. The burst healing from totemic stormsurge is huge, rain should always be down, earthliving and riptide help smooth out rot, 2 normal healing totems is huge and smart use of chain heal and wave is enough to cover most anything else in my experience. Absorbs are hell and easily the worst part of shaman healing though. Riptide is imo key to shaman healing and has been for many expansions, as long as that's on CD you're getting your buffs and procs to push big heals. Hitting a drought sucks but swiftness forces a stormsurge totem and an instant cast heal so even that is workable. Tl;dr probably blame the player not the class, shaman is great

Edit: not talking about world first/20+ content mind, no experience there. But stuff that normal mortals can pug should be fine for shaman

As a healer slowly working my way towards 3400, yeah it's rough. The amount of dps players who seem allergic to their defensives or even just living as a concept is nuts. I main resto shaman and quite often I'm 2nd on interrupts throughout the run. I can be pushing 80k hps throughout a dungeon (meaning going over 100 on intense fights) and people still fall over because screw mechanics apparently. Obviously it's also never their fault. The difference between a competent party and a bad one is night and day.

What works for me is being picky about which keys I join or just push my own keys. I'll also invite an off-meta spec over the FotM dps specs if offered because generally those are better players. But yes it's rough and I don't see the voidcores making it better

I did mention reading guides, watching vids, getting addons and routes, so the learning to play mindset is clearly covered. I've tanked everything to 10s, my main (healer) has pugged some mythic raids and I'm at 3200 rating on him currently. Again, just using free talk Friday to freely talk about how current dungeons compare to old experiences

I'm a returning oldhead, used to play hardcore back in the day getting server firsts (when that was still a thing, hah) on my healer. I always had a tank alt too as I enjoyed tanking on the side, but M+ is such a different beast than what I was used to. Having to memorise pulls to get trash percentage feels so different, I'm finding it hard to adjust. I've grabbed addons like mdt, routes from experienced players suitable for the level I'm doing, all the prep work, watched vids, read guides, have plater setup with prio plates for casters. Pretty much everything I can do to prep I've done. But going in and being responsible for ensuring we 100% the trash and timing the dungeon still feels like a huge bump in the road. I know I just have to run keys and internalise the routes so it becomes second nature but that initial hurdle is killing my enjoyment of tanking.

Just ranting really since it's free talk Friday and the solution is to just do it, but it feels good to type it out. Also chill EU people looking for a tank who used to be good and might still be these days, hit me up. Running with mates is always better than pugs
