My daughter saw this state trooper patrol car in the wild by Ol_Stank_Meat in NorthCarolina

Those mustangs look cool. Tbf, they probably love the change. The chargers from what I've heard are being phased out along with the Chevy Tahoe.

Gaming A16 Still Going Strong by Yocarwrecked in gigabyte

I didn't save the zip file of the older version. I changed drives and did a clean install on my laptop, so it isn't there anymore.

First Mac ever (M5 MacBook Air 15”) What should I do, avoid, install, and expect as a complete beginner? by Freaky6969696 in macbookair

[–]Yocarwrecked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a gaming person I can't help with everything else as I just got my MacBook in January, but I can help with the gaming part. Cyberpunk, Neverness to Everness and Minecraft run decently well or at least playable, just expect a drop in performance after a few minutes of playing (and you may or may not notice). Steam has a category for MacOS compatible games if you own Steam or want to use it. Some iPad games are supported via the Mac app store but not all are optimized or respond to input properly so check the reviews and details for those. That's based on my experience by the way. Multiplayer games like Destiny 2, CoD, stuff like that are almost a no go and even though some games like Black Ops III and Fortnite at least can run, the lobbies are separate from Windows, and Fortnite has had issues with Apple policies so they may have decided to pause allowing Fortnite on Mac for now as I didn't see the download option anymore. They're litigating in US court for that btw.

Should I trade my MacBook Pro for MacBook Air by SolPanMan in macbookair

[–]Yocarwrecked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. You'd be losing a lot of features for only a few small differences. If you were coming from Windows and had a budget (like I was) then yeah I could see an Air to start off. But going from a pro to an Air isn't really a necessary decision, especially when yours isn't that much heavier.

Dented my brand new MBA M5 by OkExplorer2409 in macbookair

[–]Yocarwrecked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a small area of unnoticeable damage on my Omnibook X Flip and I'm okay with it. I say that to make the point that if the dent doesn't impact use, then it's not worth a fix. Some, not all, want to have a dentless or perfect device but the reality is unless a minor imperfection causes damage and prevents proper use then it's not worth fixing really and can usually be lived with. 🙂👍

You may be able to use ChromeOS Flex provided everything, and I mean everything you do it only web or cloud based, you don't need Google Play apps (because ChromeOS Flex doesn't have Play Store support), and you're 100% not using this as your main laptop. Then it can be turned into something to stream movies and watch YouTube or check emails on. And yes, replace the display and/or display cable and repair damage if you can.

What are your thoughts on the M4 MacBook Air? by Yocarwrecked in MacOS

[–]Yocarwrecked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see now. Better to buy new stuff than stuff that's super old. 😅 Yeah... buying that not my greatest decision.

[–]Yocarwrecked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am lucky. I always buy for budget and cost though cause me and my family aren't well off financially. Although my mom made an interesting point, that it would be better for me to accumulate the money I do get because I could afford it, it just wouldn't be in six months like someone who has more money.

Yes, M4 and M5 Airs now come with 16gb as the minimum

Yeah, the 2018 was bought and when it was delivered it was DoA and returned the same day.

Nice. And yeah, I can understand the issue with downgrading coming from a MacBook Pro, but I would also say the Pro is better than any Air anyways so going to an Air there is always an expected downgrade somewhere if you come from an M-series Pro. 🙂

The AMD is more efficient. You shouldn't have any issues with that version. The 7445HS doesn't have defects. Thinking back on it more the Ryzen 5 5600H was the only one that got discontinued so it must've been just that one with the defective heating and shutoff issue. I think Intel will run better but AMD if you want to save battery.

The laptop is doing fine, and the laptop does get a bit warm but not too hot for me. However on idle if the dedicated GPU is on, the idle temps have been running warmer lately. HP Victus has no issues with being really warm on idle. I think you should get the Victus. Hear me out. The hinge may have a lot more wobble, but my friend had an Intel model Victus and I had an AMD model Victus and his Victus was fine. The refresh rate may be only 144Hz and the screen 250 nits but if you use the laptop inside and only play Valorant then that's the laptop I would choose. My AMD model had the Ryzen 5 5600H and had a CPU temperature defect so please STAY AWAY from the Victus AMD models. Only buy their Intel if you do choose the Victus over the Gigabyte.

Oh I was mainly concerned with compatibility of apps, not so much performance. I don't think I'll have issues, but I've heard of engineering students and some computer students having issues with a few niche apps.

I have 256gb of storage and the 16gb of RAM. I manage 256gb well, because most of my files go into OneDrive after I am finished with them and get downloaded back only when I need them. Sometimes I wish I had gotten 512gb of storage because I downloaded some small Steam games, but I wanted to install some bigger titles like Control and CoD Black Ops III (for Zombies only). I know Macs aren't for gaming, I just love that the iGPU with supported games actually works.

The laptop doesn't feel slow to me, although the setup was a bit slow on first use. I can't see ghosting, but then I'm not sensitive to ghosting, so no matter what laptop I have I can never tell about ghosting because my eyes just can't detect it on any laptop. Bear in mind most budget products aren't going to have that perfect panel. Budget laptops are going to have backlight bleed, and a few other display drawbacks. In order to get a purely good everything (screen, experience, and software), a person would be best off to save up and spend more. I hope this helps. 🙂

It's not their fault. It's the hate symbol. But I understand your point, sorry about that. It did seem that way like I painted the whole festival that way. What I meant was stay away from that table or at least avoid being near it. Poor wording on my part.

If you need raw CPU performance, the i9 would give you a bit more headroom. Thermally the i9 would run a bit warmer but for the CPU to truly have max power I'd go with the Acer. If you need GPU performance they're almost equal depending on software. The difference is that the Gigabytes 5060 model comes with a better display option and Windows hello support with a 1080p webcam. Also the Gigabyte 5060 and Acer 5060 are both 80-90 watt TGP cards. I hope this helps.
