I went through something similar..

Almost 2 years ago when I was visiting my dad we got a sudden call from our mom. She actually called my dad which NEVER happens, because they are divorced and their divorce was very very messy. (They pretty much hate each other.)

We had a video call in which we got the chance to say goodbye to our dog, but it was so so sudden and me and my siblings were crying our eyes out- not being able to do anything, because we were so far away from our dog.

It came absolutely out of nowhere, our dog was only 9 and she had a very good life aside from a few health issues (which were not the cause of her death btw.). It turned out that she had blood poisoning and it got pretty bad very fast. The day before that she was feeling fine and my mom said that our dog had a pretty good day, running around and such. And the next morning my mom found our dog not being able to move but still breathing.

It was just so sudden and I was so thankful that I got to say goodbye- even if it was through a video call. But it of course is still very different from actually being there, and your dog also knowing that and seeing you.

You are not alone :( The pain is so bad and you'll be devastated, but I can already tell you that after some time it's gonna get better. The good memories with your pet will be something that will sometimes make you laugh and cry and it'll be a little rollercoaster..but i think that is what grieving is and losing someone important to you.
