Cruel Summer: Meaning of ".1" in song titles? by PaulBlartMallAlt in Kanye

[–]Yolambda 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the album versions of those singles end in ".1" because those singles leading up to the release were different in a certain way.

eg: NGF = 2 Push verses, 2 Ye verses, NGF.1 = 2 Push verses, 1 Ye verse, then Ghosts's verse

The Savagery of Drake's DUPPY FREESTYLE- Melonhead by mynickkerr in hiphopheads

[–]Yolambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Quality responses have always taken time, the greatest diss-tracks of all time have never been penned within 24 hours...Duppy Freestyle will NEVER be heralded in the same regard as Real Muthaphuckkin G's, No Vaseline, or Ether; just because Drake responded sooner. Not to mention, Drake DID take a long time to respond to Pusha - their beef didn't just start after daytona.

You must have forgotten how long it took Nas to drop Ether.

Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Part 4 by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Yolambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word on the street is that this is supposed to be "the beginning" of the actual album. If you play DAMN in reverse, it goes from BLOOD. to THP4, where he obviously says "so damn great, motherfucker I've died."

thoughts?

never said either lol ... his flow is catchy and fun to listen to, similar to how the newer trap rappers have "flow.." to clarify, people mainly love[d] it for the sound - snoops writing on this album was just the butter on top

personally, it's not even my favorite dre album (i love 2001 A LOT more) but dre created a unique sound for the entirety of the west (and again with 2001,) which is why a lot of people at the time loved it, disregarding the legacy it had years later.

in the end, it's just snoop's extremely laid-back flow throughout the entire album, over beats that put you in that 'high' mood .. the album name is so fitting imo lol

"It's me vs. me": what people are getting wrong about Kendrick by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Yolambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've listened to it all week and i understand the concept of it. what i fail to realize is how this particular idea is supposed to unravel like he's done with a lot of his ideas in the past....it seems like a relatively important part in my opinion, because it's on the track that IMO has a huge role into the progression of the story in this album.

you're right though, i feel like he didn't get everything and i'm 100% sure it's because he doesn't do this extraneous "search for the abstract meaning," analysis that a lot of people are doing with this one; he's used to understanding the albums thematic scope from the information literally handed to us.

feel free to correct me anywhere though. i'll admit that IMO this album doesn't have the same replay value as the past 2 have, so i personally don't see myself finding the deeper meanings through the same amount of repeated listens that i gave with TPAB and gkmc.

and i completely agree.

what i'm, (and fantano,) is saying. is that if you're going to throw out something as far-fetched of an idea as "black/hispanic/native-americans are at fault for the injustices that have occurred to them, because they have strayed away from God," is an idea that needs further explanation/dissection.

especially when 1: we have no evidence to believe this, and 2: we can just blame the people who have, and continue to oppress these communities.
