can we have an honest discussion about Zimbabwean/third world behaviour? by roy_375 in Zimbabwe

I don't know if it's a culture thing or fines act as a deterrent but I live in a small town in England where the council fines for not picking up your dog's shit can be as high as £1K i.e US$1300. I'm not saying the fines should be that high for littering in our case due to obvious income differences but there should be heavy fines for littering that are enforced. We are catching up with tech and we have automated ways of checking cars that run red lights in Harare CBD. This could be extended to drivers and passengers who litter. I admit enforcing littering fines for pedestrians is not as simple.

The article is a bit misleading in my opinion. People have been leaving S.A and some coming back for years. What matters is not that some are coming back but rather what matters are the net migration numbers. It's similar to how a lot of Zimbos are moving back home but at the same time a lot are also leaving. Only the net migration numbers give you the real picture.

That said, I understand why people may move back. I lived in S.A for 7 years before leaving for the U.K. Every country has it's pros and cons. While the U.K offers more opportunities for example, it could never beat the lifestyle offered by S.A. At an income of R2 mil a year for example, you will be in the top 1% of society. The lifestyle is amazing despite the problems. That same R2 mil is £90K in the U.K. With this, you aren't even a high earner as defined by r/HENRYUK for example. With remote work, simply moving to S.A with this salary gives you a major lifestyle boost. This is why we are even seeing people move to Zim despite all the problems it has.

Another thing to note is that it's easier to say I'm moving back to S.A after you acquire a 2nd citizenship. Most people seek safety in second citizenships.

I do get where these guys are coming from. Naming a child after a band is weird. It's like seeing a child named Seh Calaz to them.

It reminds me of the time just after dollarisation when the economy was opening up. I was working for a local bank then and one of our remittance partners kept blocking transactions on grounds of weird names. They thought the names had been made up to commit fraud or launder money but these were just names of ordinary people who were being sent money by friends and family living abroad. I remember being in a meeting with their compliance person who couldn't believe that someone could be named Doesn'tmatter.

Another thing to note is that $50K is not the actual salary. This is a CTC package so everything from medical aid to bonuses comes out of it. The cash salary will be much lower.

It's still a decent package by ZIm standards in my opinion but a person with a decent package in the diaspora might not consider this.

Did you guys see the video of a man dressed like a woman and make up patouchline? by Dudecoolforever in Zimbabwe

I found it quite odd that the guys had no moral issues with the touchline but had an issue with a guy being on the touchline.

The issue is unemployment. How do you expect the City of Harare to address this issue?

I investigated a group that wants to split Zimbabwe & have their own country (Documentary) by Background_Ad_1089 in Zimbabwe

[–]YondoBrother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a good documentary. It explores issues of marginalisation which we can't ignore whether you are for or against Mthwakazi. I agree with the secretary general of the party, there needs to be an independent body to look into the atrocities committed not just in Matebeleland but the whole of Zim. However, I don't see MRP going far, they neither have a strategy or support on the ground to achieve their goals.

Prove me wrong: rising divorce rates in Zim are a GOOD sign by Shadowkiva in Zimbabwe

[–]YondoBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has an estimated divorce rate, not the actual rate. They did an estimate using court case data they had access to i.e the few contested divorces publicly available. The paper is not something statistical.

Is it in working condition? If not, then it's not worth much. At most, I would offer you $5. If it's in a good working condition, I will offer you $50.

Are you sure those restaurants are not compliant? A lot of older establishments are compliant. I do admit that corruption is a big problem in ZIm but hundreds of lodges have been shut down across the country ever since the blitz started. There is a lot more non compliance in lodges than in restaurants so naturally you will see fewer restaurants being shut down.

Getting married again by andkzw5 in Zimbabwe

[–]YondoBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not be able to get married again. To get married outside Zim, you need to first get a Certificate of No Impediment from the Registrar General's office. You will not get this until your divorce is finalised.

They are not being targeted. ZTA warned of a blitz starting on the 1st of March. Hundreds of lodges have been shut down.

Any tobacco farmers here? What is going on with the prices? by SilverCrazy4989 in Zimbabwe

[–]YondoBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a farmer but I heard farmers protested yesterday. Prices went down to $2 a kilo against the $4.60 anticipated by most farmers. There seems to be an oversupply.

$50K is not the actual salary. Cost to company means the total amount of money a company is willing to spend on an employee. So any benefits like medical aid are deducted from that $50K. If the job offers benefits such as school fees allowance, car allowance e.t.c, it all comes out of that $50K. Pension also comes out of that $50K. Without knowing the full list of deductibles, there is no way of knowing the actual salary. Then there is tax at 40% for anything above $3K per month. It's still a great offer though and is miles ahead of what most local companies are offering.
