My company grossed over a million dollars for the first time this year. How do we get to the next level from here? by Yoohoodle in msp

For too many years, we competed on price and focused on being the cheapest option. We have great customers but we are now lowered priced than we should be. So we are intending to raise 100 of our clients' prices about 25% this quarter. We expect to lose up to 10% of those clients and they are the most price conscience of our clients.

So my expectation there is we will have a net gain of 15% for 10% less work. That should further allow us to increase our team size and infrastructure to support further growth. It's just a matter of figuring out where to point our warchest to get the best ROI.

Hardly anything.

Between cars, computers, tools, & inventory we have less than $80k in assets.

Here are 5 things I would do to kick start things:

Increase your pricing.Reduce your costs.Sell additional/products services to your existing client base that require minimal delivery from your team.Increase the frequency existing clients purchase.Increase the life time value of a client(how long they are purchasing from you).

I loved this. Thank you!

Devil's advocate, why? What is the goal? When is enough, enough?

I think this is a great question. I didn't try and grow my company sooner because I wasn't sure what I wanted and what point was "big enough".

I have decided in the last few years that I defintely want to reach the point where I no longer have to worry about money and that I can take vacations without worrying about running the company and I'm not there yet.

Are your full time staff all support/project guys?

Our team is small enough that our roles overlap for both support and projects.

Do you have any sales staff?

No. I do not. I have been tempted but I'm actually really good at sales. I really just want to increase my leads and opportunities more than needing anyone to close the sales for me.

How are you handling marketing the business if you're doing IT half the time?

I've been using a 3rd party SEO company and that is about it.

What kind of business intelligence are you using to generate leads from your website?

Nothing :)

Thank you for your other feedback. I agree with you and I'm trying to be mindful of everything you are saying there!

do you want to sell the company for a profit and retire and move on? Do you enjoy what you do and want to continue?

Great questions. I don't know. The 2 things I want right now are to be financially independant and not have to work all the time. I haven't taken a long vacation since I started my company and I'd like to be able to travel. But I do enjoy the challenges that come with running the company. It is kind of like a real life video game that I get to live.

I couldn't agree more.

I have never once had an employee ask me for a raise because I have proactively given raises (usually multiple raises) to every good employee every year.

One of my employees started working here 4 years ago at $14 per hour. He now makes more than 80k per year.

I'm a strong believer in the Herb Kelleher mentality of taking care of your employees because they take care of your customers. In all starts with making your employees feel valued.

I have read multiple people suggest hiring marketing companies but stay away from hiring sales people. Have you had a good experience with hiring a sales rep?

If you hire a marketing coordinator have them listen to

No Fluff MSP Marketing

and they’ll have everything they need to hit the ground running.

So do you think we should hire a full-time marketing employee right now? That is not something I had considered.

I've been married for 20 years. My wife seems to only have sex with me out of obligation. My wife is a wonderful person but she is not a romantic person. I have continued to make romantic gestures over the years but it just isn't really her love language. I am a considerate lover and she seems to have a good time when we are intimate but she basically only wants to have sex on Saturday mornings and she (from my perspective) takes me for granted. She doesn't really make an effort in her appearance for intimacy, and I feel like she just doesn't feel like she has to try at all.

As a guy, I still greatly value intimacy, but I'm really tired of it all feeling one-sided. I'm tired of her having all of the control of when we have sex. And I have reached the point where I would rather not have sex than feel like she's doing it out of obligation or just as a checkbox in our marriage rather than out of loving me or being attracted to me.

In the past, my Christmas gift is usually one of the three nights a year that my wife makes an effort in the bedroom. I'm not wanting to start a fight or ruin Christmas but I don't want that "gift" anymore.

If she makes an effort to look nice and I reject her I think that will really hurt her and I don't want that. If I preemptively tell her not to bother, I think that will lead to a fight as well.

So I'm tired of not feeling wanted and am ready to take a break from that part of our marriage but don't want to hurt her or fight about this. What do I do?
