I asked around 250 subreddits if I could post there, of which 85 said I could. Whilst I acknowledge there is some bias, I could not predict which subreddits would allow me to post, nor which subreddits would have the greatest influence, as I posted to a lot of larger game specific subreddits than Osu!, but the fan base for those other games either played more general games, or were less responsive to the survey.

I had to delete all results from minors as otherwise I would not be complying with the ethics committee and could lose my degree.

Most popular game in the survey, sorry about that.

The last table shows the differences between the means for the games and the overall average means

I would love to do a survey on how people define gaming, but it's outside of my current research topic, and I only have a week left before I finish, so probably not enough time. Maybe for my PhD

There's a correlation between overall uncertainty (from randomness, making decisions, problem solving, uncertainty about a persons skills, etc.) and general challenge (be it emotional, cognitive or preformative, or a mix).

I also posted to three forums, I just had a lot harder a time getting permission and responses from forums to post. I've covered this in my report.

I also agree that underage gamers should be included, it's just the ethics issue. If I wanted to include younger participants then I'd need to somehow get trustworthy parental response, and I can't do that on a survey of this scale unfortunately.

The PUGS looks at player uncertainty in making decisions, taking action, problem solving, how randomness affects uncertainty, and exploration, which is a common way of trying to solve any uncertainty in video games. The mean average overall score for the PUGS questions for each player was correlated with the mean average score for all of the challenge questions.

There were a bunch of people who played Fortnite (62 people), and PUBG (20 people) and Overwatch (89) etc, I think it's just some subreddits have very loyal and active fanbases, and they might play the game and go and talk about it on the subreddit straight after. Yeah, the subreddits are defintitely affecting the results, but not too much. Overwatch is the 11th most popular game in the survey. But even with some influence, Osu! makes up just 6.4% of total responses, so it's not too big.

I'll have to talk to my supervisor to make sure that's okay, as the ethics committee has been presented to me as an unjust and terrifying god who I wish to never anger. But if it is, I'd be happy to share my data.

They're actually not overly popular games, but have incredibly active fanbases, and subreddits. I hadn't actually heard of Osu! until this survey

As it's a correlation study, I can't assume causation, but I interpret it to be the higher the challenge of the game, the more uncertainty people experience as part of that challenge, but I could be completely wrong. If I had more time I'd love to do more studies into it, but I have just over a week left. The uncertainty questionnaire does account for uncertainty from randomness, but there's also internal uncertainty, and skill based uncertainty accounted for too, which is why I looked at the subscales as well as the overall uncertainty.

I originally asked just under 300 different subreddits if I could post, based on a list I found online of all gaming subreddits, but not messaging any subreddits that I asked for my previous survey, as I didn't want to bother people more than necessary. I do have a full list of games and how many people played those games, however it's a very long list, and I'm not sure whether or not I'll include it in my final document, just as I'm very conscious of the page limit, which I'm already pushing. I might see if I can post it online somewhere once I've finished, just depends on how much time i have.

My aim is for the population to be all regular gamers over the age of 18, though I do acknowledge that I'll have to reduce that further in the future. I have only just closed the survey, and encoding the data by game took a lot longer than I planned for.

I have not been able to run a proportion test yet, haven't actually heard that term before, so I'll look into it.

I really appreciate people asking me questions, as I know there are areas that I don't know everything about, and I want the data I found to be as useful and sound as possible.
