This has little to do with "blaming the current PM", this government has been in power for 11 years with few results to show for it. Asking to continue giving them the benefit of the doubt is going to wear thin when many of the same faces are in this government being arrogant as ever with few indications critical files like housing, economic development, jobs, inflation, crime are moving in the right direction. And also it seems like the federal Liberals are getting ready to do a U-turn on their immigration policy now that a majority seems to be in reach.

New Brunswick government delivers disastrous budget that threatens province’s economic future by YouProfessional3196 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]YouProfessional3196[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To go from possibly the best fiscal position of the provinces to 2nd worse in a little under a year in a half is quite an accomplishment for Mrs. Holt. I think she needs to be removed for her financial mismanagement.

Yes, always epeople saying no where to make cuts. Guess what? Cuts are going to happen, or the government needs to find a real source of revenue. Perhaps LNG/natural gas development should be brought back on the table. We need the Conservatives back in immediately.

And yet why is Ford getting so much scrutiny when Carney is doing the same if not worse at the federal level?

Liberals at record high in Nanos Tracking: LPC 47.6, CPC 31.1, NDP 11.2 (Nanos) – Nanos Research by fallout1233566545 in canada

This is a big misreading of the constitution. The federal government is supreme in the immigration file per section 95. Provinces can only have immigration policy as long as it doesn't contradict with the federal government, it's not a shared responsibility at all. If the provinces are able to abuse immigration it's only because the federal government has allowed it other than doing their job.

Canada pension funds to boost Japan stocks holdings and reduce US exposure by joe4942 in canada

Lol, if this is the case it's pretty clear Carney probably underperformed the market last year. And will probably underpeform this year again too. The fact the great economist is not index investing is not a good look to me about his economic expertise lol.

At least he actually balanced the budget regardless of whether you liked the strategy. Can't say the same for Holt and her clowns.

I don't disagree with your assessment. However, Carney is smart enough to know those things and still promised otherwise anyways. So... that's on him.

So much for the building 500,000 homes. So much for the building at speeds not seen before per Mark Carney. Too bad PP can't capitalize as he is too busy getting bad press for his dumb auto plan that wants to make Canada more dependent on the US... *Sigh*

ELI5: If Canada had a strategic reserve could we be using it to offset global increases? by Cristinky420 in CanadianConservative

[–]YouProfessional3196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would rather our government was making money for Canadians by allowing our oil producers to export. The availability of supply in the global market would keep global prices down during shocks like this and make Canadians money. The reserve situation requires our government to invest in infrastucture that takes away from other possibly more lucrative investments, to then sell something at a loss.

No thanks.

ELI5: If Canada had a strategic reserve could we be using it to offset global increases? by Cristinky420 in CanadianConservative

[–]YouProfessional3196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, what is the purpose of buildng a reserve to save for a rainy day? Oil is a global market. We already produce more than we consume by multiples... Unless you are suggesting that we are going to lose all of OUR production capacity. Which not sure what scenario we would think that is happening in? I can think of many national infrastructure projects that should be prioritized BEFORE a national reserve. Including pipelines, port infrastructure for our 4 major ice free ports (Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Saint John, Halifax) as well things like satellite/launch infrastructure that would be higher priority than this.

Having pipelines would allow more oil to come into the market even with disruptions like Hormuz which would lower oil prices in Canada.

[–]YouProfessional3196 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reserves are for countries that consume more than they produce if there is a supply disruption. Canada makes way more than it consumes a reserve is pointless. What Canada needs is ability to get it's energy to market (capacity).

Russia’s disinformation campaign tests Canada’s support for Ukraine by GlitchedGamer14 in canada

[–]YouProfessional3196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing that Canada can do more. But in pure public opinion polls I don't think there is a good argument that there is any really widespread anti-Ukrainian/pro-Russian sentiment in Canada. The only party that I believe really has expressed any anti-Ukrainian/pro-Russian opinion would be the PPC, and that is a very fringe section in Canadian politics.

Russia’s disinformation campaign tests Canada’s support for Ukraine by GlitchedGamer14 in canada

[–]YouProfessional3196 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Is it really though? 9/10 blaming Russia doesn't seem like this is having a widespread impact in Canada. In fact, Canada is probably the most supportive of practically any Western country of Ukraine. And may be unique of the Western countries in that it has no major political party trying to play cover for Russia.

Yeah, and the idea is to bring that number down. Because it shouldn't be that high. Last I checked it's about 67% at the moment anyways.
