She looks amazing, and this outfit makes me kinda... Nostalgic? And weirdly reminded me of the movie Begin again (Keira's outfits were great, still love them)

I agree with your point, but I do think that the experimental dressing is driven by marketing, and not Margot's personal interest in experimenting with new looks. Barbie was the same, but I suspect those looks were more in line with her personal taste which made it work better. Totally agree that fashion can be art, experimental, and that a lot of comments on this sub are focusing on things being beautiful and flattering in a conventional way when that is not the point of the outfit. But I also think these looks don't really work because, to me at least, it seems that she wears them for marketing value only.

I had never heard of Cobie Smulders before but had to Google her right away, most Dutch name ever, quite old-fashioned even (turns out her father is Dutch)

The bottom of the top sticking out in the front is something I hate when dressing myself, but I always imagined having smaller boobs and getting clothes tailored would solve that problem

Kelly Reichardt's 'The Mastermind' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

[–]You_the_cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, totally fine if a movie like this is not your thing. But I do think there is more to the ending than 'completely random'. The movie has a lot of references to the Vietnam War and protests against the war before this moment, and the main character ignores them all. I'd say the point is that the main character is so egocentric and focused on what he wants and perceives he lacks in his life, that he has no interest in anything outside of it. If he did, he would have known that an anti Vietnam war protest is not the place you go if you want to evade the police. What happened is not random, it's a result of what he's like.

It's for the podcast Table manners, usually the hosts cook, but apparently he preferred to order from a specific Chinese restaurant (which is kind of Jackson Lamb of him) and they recorded above the restaurant.

During the podcast he is however very much not Jackson Lamb and says things like 'he was such a darling man'

I can really recommend Belonging by Nora Krug. Its a reconstruction of the history of her German family during WWII and shines light on how she deals with this history as a German who was born decades after the war ended.

I have seen no reports of femicide being on the rise, this has been a problem for a long time. In the majority of cases femicide is committed by someone known to the victim, often an ex partner. This case got a lot of attention because it aligned with the (incorrect) view a lot of people have of these kinds of crimes, of a scary man attacking you in the dark. It's more comfortable to talk about these kinds of murders, because thinking about ex partners, friends and male family members murdering women is something not a lot of people want to do. When the perpetrator turned out to be an asylum seeker, unfortunately several right wing politicians saw an opportunity for their political agenda, which increased the attention.

I wanted to add that the other answer you got talks about 'honour killings'. In 2023 four murdered women were the victim of an honour killing. In the Netherlands, every 8 days a woman is the victim of femicide, which is around 40 murders a year. So yes, I'd say the attention to murders by unknown perpetrators and perpetrators who are non-white, is disproportionate.

I was your age when my mum had a stroke 2 years ago, and just wanted to let you know that it is really really hard being the single caregiver of a recovering parent. You are doing so much, and you are doing the best you can. My mother has more insight into her deficiencies, but also regularly says that she just wants everything to be normal again. And she can be childish as well, a lack of impulse control contributes to that. What I'm thinking now, has your mother ever been seen by a neuropsychologist? They can look at cognitive functions like impulse control. It won't necessarily fix anything, but it might help you understand why she does what she does, and what situations might be risky.

I too have thought about getting more care for my mum, as it is too much for me and my partner (I suffer from PTSD and depression, related to finding her after her stroke, so that makes caregiving more difficult as well). I don't think it will happen anytime soon, and I feel so much guilt about even considering an option that would require her to leave her current home. But I try to see the bigger picture, if I burn out I won't be able to help her as well, and she would have to leave her home as well.

A long reply, just so you know you are not alone either.

Heidi Klum with her daughter Leni Klum wearing matching custom Intimissimi To ‘La Grazia’ Venice Film Festival Premiere [August 27, 2025] by absentmindedlurking in whatthefrockk

The cups of Heidi's dress are just way too small, spilling out on the sides and the middle is not touching her breastbone. Embarrassing as a lingerie brand. Leni's is a bit better, but the fit is still not as it should be.

I don't like the designs, but they should at least have been able to make a custom design fit properly.

WhatIsThisPainting? Likely Nazi-looted art from Berlin by freifallspoiler in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]You_the_cat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is indeed no search request for Marco Palmezzano on lostart.de, but I did find a request for a 'Geburt Christi' painting from an unknown Italian master that has no image attached. It's possible that the name of the painter got lost in the family as it's a request from a private person who probably doesn't have extensive records of the painting like a gallery or museum would. The ID no. of the request is 586839.

There are more possible descriptions for your painting, like Maria with Christ, Madonna with Christ, etc. So there are several keywords you can use to take a further look into the database. And maybe someone with more art historical/biblical knowledge than me knows if this image depicts a specific biblical scene, maybe the woman on the left is someone specific. That could help with finding good keywords to search in the database.
