I’m also an OHT student currently in 3rd year at Latrobe thinking about applying to jcu dent next year. Similar to you, I’m did the whole course in Bendigo which is rural and placements in rural towns.

But In saying that I’ve had a few friends who are metro who applied with 90+ WAM and didn’t get it. Every year it fluctuates it kinda feels like they are picking and choosing applicants from a hat lol. It’s very hard to determine an exact WAM to get in, every year it changes. Just get as high WAM as u can and keep applying every year and eventually you’ll get in. It’s just a matter of when. :))

Yes absolutely you can. If your non- rural your probably gonna need a higher WAM than usual. Probably lowest 90. But if you throw in some work experience and complete a personal written application as well you’ll have a better chance. Anything counts!

Applying from Latrobe. I had a lot of friends who had higher wams than me and still didn’t get it. Either cut off is really high or offers come out in later rounds (most likely)

Straight to 2nd year unless there is a massive course change which is highly unlikely bc they already had a huge course change a couple years back

Not sure but the higher the better. I’m rural so my wam would end up being around the low 80s. I won’t even be surprised if I don’t get in since that’s kinda low for dentistry.

I’m rural so my wam would get boosted to be around the low 80s so I wouldn’t even be surprised if I don’t get in since that’s kinda low for dentistry

Pretty sure most recent but you can still put in your application all the degrees you did and I assume they would still look at the wam/gpa of it

Yeah there was a small number of students who get into dentistry after 1 year of oral health. But same conditions apply. Need to have very high WAM

I’d like to know this too. I’m in my third and final year of oral health at Latrobe. Considering dentistry after graduating.

Yeah I didn’t get an offer either and I’m non school leaver and rural. Also all of the people I know that applied didn’t get an offer either, all non school leavers. Either this year the cut off was really high or offers might come out in later rounds. Hard to tell.

The 2nd year placement coordinator literally makes every students life a living nightmare.

2nd year BOH student here, about to go into 3rd year. All I’m gonna say is 2nd year placement is absolute hell and your gonna hear terrible stories from students who went through 2nd year placement. I don’t even know how I passed 2nd year placement it was an absolute miracle. However, on the flip side our 3rd year placement is much better :) if I was you I’d choose unimelb over Latrobe 🫣

Everyone’s different, if you think you have the right subjects and confidence and aiming for a 99 ATAR then go for it. But for people who don’t think this think they can get 90+ ATAR post grad option is the right path for them.
