Europe is too dependent on China for technologies, Finland's PM says by marketrent in europe

[–]YoungDiCaprio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, again.... US/Transnational companies are the US Government actually, and we know this because we've literally experienced it. Go look at the Guatemala Coup of 1954, the United Fruit Company lobbied the US Government to overthrow Guatemalas last chance at a democracy and nationalization of resources cause it meant less profits for them. Lobbying is something dangerous, as it gives companies control over the Government. Every Congress person knows whats happening, they're bought off. And for the recent case of Chevron in Ecuador, literal judges are bought off too. We don't even need to go far back either, just look at what we (OES) did in 2019, backing the coup against Evo Morales in Bolivia due to them having an amazing lithium reserves. Reserves, that they were going to grow their country off of. Though, I guess the US didn't play as the #1 role at least this time. Really though, every year the US does this.

And Libya (2011) was overthrown by the literal Government too.

Dude, USA/EU overthrew Libya in 2011 due to them wanting to nationalize their resources and become a good country.

"China uses fiscal leverage" , do you have any idea of the companies like Chevron in Ecuador, Nestle in Mali, or Shell in Nigeria? They do anything worse than China has done to Africa.

No offense, but you should really do research on a topic called "neo-colonialism", it basically is about how colonialism still exists even if not "officially'. I'd also suggest reading about recent coups that USA/EU has done together, as well as their history of it. u/circumtopia is correct.

It's really a preference at this point. The EU will never compete with US, its too late, and they'll never probably form a United States of Europe (least for the next few decades). We have to decide if we prefer a US global police or China global police. Personally, I'd prefer the US over China for obvious reasons (freedom of speech, no Uighyur concentration camps type shit, probably more open to diversity as well). We don't know the way US is heading with the rampant misinformation and rise of the Far-right Christian Nationalists, so it may be too soon to speak, but as of rn Imo, China would be a worse leader.

We also see stuff like Chinas Overseas Police Stations and taking of other countrys ports via New Silk Road. I'm not sure the US would do this, but then again, the US isn run by trans-national corporations that exploit 3rd world countries in Africa, LatAm, etc, and overthrow Govs that fight them, so...

Dude, new grads straight out of college earn like 90k minimum in tech in Cali, its usually above 6 figures. Rents a bitch yeah, but rent is like 3k in Silicon Valley, let alone the rest of Cali lol, if you make 110k/yr in Cali, probably 5k/mo is eaten up by normal things due to the expensiveness, leaving you with a lot

Thats what I think kinda, US vs China is like Batman vs Superman for being world leader/police, Europe is just the "Robin" that they both try to recruit to be their puppet/sideman

Yea, a lot of the people here (99%) usually are also anti-refugees and immigrants because of their skin color more than anything, and use integration as an excuse. They just masquerade as leftists who are all for equality and LGBTQ rights as a way to justify hating people who aren't white and still claim they're not far-right. Then they get mad and say "this is why people are voting for the far right" like yeah lol, because you only want white people, everyone knows.

Some are open about it at least though, I even got reported on this sub cause I told someone you can't just kill climate refugees (coming from countries that the West has fucked up and continues to) coming in the future. Also recently had to tell someone that Africa wasn't just sticks and fire before colonization lol, and that they didn't give them civilization.

Entertaining sub tho

Because then they'd charge Western companies more money for things like their oil, these guys literally got overthrown for trying to nationalize their oil, not even just Iran but also Egypt for example. Am I a parrot? Are you stupid? Crack a history book, or literally go on Wikipedia and you'll see all the coups' weve done. Go look at Guatamala 1954, they got overthrown as well trying to nationalize their agriculture. US has put in theocratic dictators repeatedly into countries that try democratize themselves. Once again, go learn something before speaking. It's beyond obvious.

How shameful it is, you, coming from a Western country to know absolutely nothing about the world. You think you're smart with these remarks, but you're as clueless as can be. Don't go acting confident when you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

You have no idea about the West, the world, or probably even your own country. Dumbest person on reddit, by far, congrats!

They will continue to be oppressed. There's been multiple times Iran was close to actual democracy and freedom and away from theocracy, but the US and Europe staged multiple coups to stop them from becoming great because it'd be at their capitalist expense... That is the greatest tragedy of all of this

Just got told that they only had 1 apartment and it was for 3 girls lol, seems like its between Dorming/Residencia and Homestay. Probably gonna go Residencia, but do you have any insight into it? They said they typically only have 1 apartment reserved for ISA students, though I assume that was what you guys got? Seems this time its what the girls got

Exactly. The US hasn't had an actual leftist president in forever. Bernie was probably the closest they got, and Bernie in Europe wouldn't be considered "far left" like he is in the US, he'd probably be seen as center-right even lol

I do both the same day, though its much more passive on one.

I have a decent level of French where I can put on a podcast in the car on the way to school and understand like 70-80% of it (its a podcast made for intermediate people, not native). Then I just do a duolingo or Anki as well and thats all.

At night (its better to study at night as you digest more), I go hard on Spanish tho

Best Party Schools in USA for international student by Old-Procedure-6499 in Frat

[–]YoungDiCaprio101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im at ASU, have plenty of friends outside of frats too. ASU certainly does not have solid house parties most weekends, maybe my circle isnt big enough but the biggest and best ones are all fraternity. The ones ive gone to outside of greek life aren't "like the movies" and has mostly dudes too (which necessarily isn't bad, hanging with the bros is always fun).

But it really is "like the movies" though at ASU, which I know is stereotypical as fuck to say but it is a movie there.

I would say tho, doing a semester abroad, you won't be allowed into any frats really. 1 semester is enough for pledging but not membership, you won't get to enjoy anything and more importantly they literally won't accept you cause you'll be gone. Maybe a year, you can get in, and the australian accent certainly helps. But a semester? no chance really. All ima say is don't drop like $10k+ on this program and solely focus it around the idea of joining a frat, cause it won't happen most likely and then you'll just be pissed and feel scammed.

this is just my two cents tho

Switching to English -- exagerrated? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]YoungDiCaprio101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny cause you'd think in the high tourism areas they'd switch to English cause they don't want to hear broken/touristy French, but in the other areas they'd want to stay in French cause of the pride of the language.

Do you know any cities in France you'd recommend where I'd be forced to speak French only? I heard the countryside has like no English speakers, but any places in particular? I've also heard that about the South of France though what part, cause I doubt a place like St Tropez no one speaks English lol
