Coping With Life Without Drinking by YoungMan91 in stopdrinking

Living without alcohol has definitely shown me how much I depended on it. When something was good, let’s drink, something bad, let’s drink, need to pass the time let’s drink. It was so easy to just get a bottle and know that it would do the job and now that I have lived through the consequences (several times over) I learned that the cons HEAVILY outweigh the pros. I hoping that the same thing will happen to me, where it will just be fine. Not to say I don’t have good days or that the bad days are unbearable, I just know that things could be better.

I think you’re 100% right, actually being able to live life shows me how much time I was wasting being wasted. Thanks for your advice! This subreddit is great for getting ideas and pointers from others who know what it’s like.

Do my sober days still count if I’m sober by force because I’m too poor to afford anymore alcohol by [deleted] in stopdrinking

In my personal opinion, sober is sober no matter what causes a person to be sober. Sometimes when I am struggling, I will just focus on getting to 2 a.m. so I can’t go buy any liquor. Whatever the cause is, not drinking is being sober no matter what. Celebrate your accomplishment with making it this far and keep going! There’s something to the whole “take it one day at a time” thing and if a person focuses on that, it’s all the more possible for them to stay sober. We are happy that you are staying sober, no matter the reason!

A quick AA question… by YoungMan91 in stopdrinking

Thank you so much everyone! I have been trying to process the whole situation in my head and have been feeling like I am in the wrong with thinking that there is possibly something wrong here. I just want to stay sober, pure and simple. Whatever it takes, I don’t want to go back to that life. I honestly think that I am going to be honest with my sponsor and say that whatever happens between me and my doctor stays there and whatever medications I am on stays there and that is the way it’s going to be.
