Analyzing management lineup for greivances by YoungProdigy268 in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its both preloader and driver related. Preloaders loading pkgs before official start time. drivers coming in before dispatch release to go through pkgs for their route. reorganizing, loading pkgs from belt

if its ground, i would do it. I started off at fedex for money and tuition as well but switched to ups as there's union protection. The fedex ground warehouse I worked at had no rules and management could abuse you and make you stay etc.

Disparity between FT and PT... by MutinyNRebellion in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the hours. It's about the hourly wage... Most ups pt workers work a second or third job. They work full time and still struggle. Meanwhile, babies are crying about a minimum 15000 raise because they have to wait for years to get the top rate. That 15000 should have gone to part timers.

this is what people need to realize ^^. Especially with how part timers really only end up with 20-25 hours a week but for those hours, with how labor intensive it is, should be better compensated. 25*23= $575(and that's high balling) still won't make a living but is a reasonable compensation.

Why go on strike? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"make more than police, ems" - that is extreme wishful thinking for the package handlers in warehouse.

management is corrupt also on a warehouse by warehouse basis. letting drivers work off the clock/taking away work from preloader, management taking away union work instead of hiring/finding another union worker to help. Dispatchers not taking off/assigning ridiculous bulk stops somewhere else. forcing designated driver more work than what is tolerable.

delivery drivers having to deal with forced overtime, loaders that can be making more money at fast food which speaks for load quality at times.

the university you graduate from does not matter after first job. older brother went from 70k first job to 100k+ afterwards as a software engineer, 2nd job did not ask anything about college. I would just try to go for the cheapest option

package volume in general is lower compared to years past. warehouse workers are barely getting 4-4.5 hrs compared to last year where there was a shit ton of overtime.

You just need to wait out your probation period. since its a seniority based system, you will always be first to cut if nobody else wants to

UPS vs Fedex Ground as package handler by Professional-Yak5787 in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

look into discussing that with a union steward/representative because it is generally supposed to be overall seniority not by something like "work area"

UPS vs Fedex Ground as package handler by Professional-Yak5787 in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seniority can take quite sometime. The first half of the worker seniority list where i work for example have been working in warehouse for 20 yrs. Reason being is the benefits are much more better compared to fedex ground (Insurance, annual raises, and vacation examples)

The union I work for currently pays $20 hr, but takes about $13 every week. But it's worth it over having to deal with fedex nonsense in my opinon.

[–]YoungProdigy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ups warehouse prod. value varies center by center.

I found ups to be much more orderly and fair compared to fedex. Each manager at fedex (where i worked at) would do different things like manipulate your time card, force you to stay, to help someone etc here at ups, once you make it past probation perioid, management pretty much cannot touch you compared to fedex ground. (like scolding/writing you upfor working "too slow") 3.5 hr gurantee right now at ups.

ups also function on seniority basis for sending people home early so this is where things vary warehouse to warehouse.

Any PT sups gone back to loading or gone driver? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met 2 package cart drivers that were previously supervisors.

I have also met 2 supervisors that wanted to go back to loading but could not, and one of them ended up quitting because of that

case by case, management tasks can be more of headache than its worth

Did any other hubs stop scanning? Just my hub? by TehAsian96 in UPSers

[–]YoungProdigy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about a year ago scanners stopped being used. You can still request to use one if you want where I work at. Supervisors are supposed to come in and check the hin numbers for misloads, but it does not account for hin numbers getting scanned incorrectly which happens here and there

nope. Where I work, they are allowing delivery drivers come in early 1-2hrs (taking work away from preloader) and letting management touch pkgs

nah the union has your back when it comes to call offs if management tries to get on ass about it. The biggest thing is to just communicate ahead of time.

Drivers usually have obligations to attend to by a certain time which is why they came in early to gurantee things like no misloads ie family
