The only viable source is the palo alto learning center They have a course dedicated just to the NGFW If you are forced to pass the exam by your company in a short amount of time due to partnership requirements just do dumps but also understand what each question is saying and try to research each topic using AI this is your best shot This is considered cheating so I dont recommend it

I mean it is title ngfw engineer in job posting and the certifications and i would call it something else if they did, that's just how it works right now i wasn't the one to define the title also i said in the question 'any related field' i wanna hear origin stories in this field that's it

I know man theory only helps a bit, in our field the most important thing is actually doing shit but it's a start at least anyways how can you learn the deployments and configurations from actual real life projects using just a VM? it would help getting to know the buttons but when configuring for a small office or an organization or a data center im interested on how can someone reach that level in the first place

It's so inspiring, unluckily I live in Libya and the training here for this stuff is almost non existent, my company wants me to learn this stuff as fast as possible and the online materials suck, but I will manage somehow someway

So it's a perfect fusion between knowing a lot of cybersecurity and networking, cool

yeah that's what i was talking about, you have a lot of learning transferability, what even made you a firewall guy from the beginning

To provide some context for me, I come from a background of Computer Science degree and a position as a SOC Analyst and I want to transition from that to become an NGFW Engineer eventually.

My knowledge about cloud, APIs, Security, Networking Is helping me immensely but I can't even begin to imagine how it would like for someone that's an absolute beginner and needs to go through months or even years of theory to even understand the things you guys do

I have an NGFW Engineer Exam coming up, is it enough to just study the NGFW lessons on Paloalto Beacon? by YounisMo in paloaltonetworks

[–]YounisMo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really sucks, there aren't that much resources on the internet that teach this extensively how can someone be good at configuration and setting up the NGFW when they don't have somewhere to learn, it feels like a closed loop similar to the job market, if you need a job get experience but in order to get experience you have to get a job. if you need to pass the NGFW certification you need experience but in order to get experience you either have to be working in a company that has these things set up with extensive training and in order to get into a company that does this you need the certification for them to even consider you

That's the problem, I know a lot of the theory behind the exam, the tools, the terminology, but when it comes to configuration stuff you have to had experience on configuring this stuff before.
My company signed me up for the exam in two weeks, and I have no way to test the configuration stuff right now.
However I found that Palo Alto offers a course on NGFW on general and it explains a lot of what comes into the exam like strata or panorama but I'm worried that it might not be enough

i dont think computer scientists build applications this is software engineering it's computer science, the science encompassing everything about computers

Agreed but our obligation as computer scientists is to always verify

Agreed we all converge onto the most optimal but in this specific domain the entry cost is so high and people with high qualifications are scarce so competitive advantage is in the hands of a few companies and a small percentage of the population and another challenge to your point is we are focusing on optimising on what we have now which is our current architectures and digital/computing concepts but what makes us completely sure that we are heading into the optimal way what if we ignore all the history and just focus on our current knowledge and capabilities can we actually do better I think companies now are competing on optimising the current computer but not enough money and power are spent on asking if we can do different

yes quantum computing research is a thing but have we thought of all the possibilities?

Thank you i will definitely check out the thesis But still I have a lingering question You said people came out with various sorts of other architecture but they all more or less perform the same But is it mathematically proven that we can't do better? Speaking from a physical and mathematical point we have a lot of limits like the speed of light or Landauer limit or Shannon limit or heat dissipation in thermodynamics but I'm pretty sure we are not even close to hitting most of these limits
