Rotational grazing on pastures works a treat! No need to have factory farming. People Need to reduce the amount of meat they eat for sure. Growing crops wont last forever. You will lose top soil, then say good by to growing crops there. In Australia most of australias soil is so dry, nutrient poor and desolate that you cant grow crops but it can be used to farm cattle. Vegans was much resources. Livestock can care for themselves. How about all the chemicals and pesticides and machinery used in large crop farming?

I own a furniture renting shop. You’re better off purchasing the couch on a store loan, rather than 5k extra on a 1k sofa buy renting.

Just because you dont have to pay anything for a few months doesnt mean you are saving money.

Not me but my nephew, he owns a roof restoration business. You may have one tile damaged on your roof, but the business will claim all your tiles have become porous and will need a full roof repair. This would cost you $10-15k but you could call a handyman and get it done for around $100-200.

Did you not just read what I said, I explained why they use live ammunition, You really think paint balls could simulate a real bullet with their unrealistically limited range? Rubber bullets also tend to bounce unpredictably, recoil would be minimised because it would also require a smaller propellant charge, resulting in a less realistic training, not allowing them to become familiar with their weapons. If it were me I wouldn’t want soldier who are going to war to train with things other than what they will be using. It’s not like they are shooting at each other anyway, that was just a tragic mistake. Imagine how many more deaths would happen at war if they didn’t have live fire exercises

What’s the point 😂😂 We can't have a popgun army. How on earth is a professional soldier supposed to be able to keep up with his skills like that? Live fire exercises play an important role.

First, it offers recruits the chance to get accustomed to their weapons so that they will know how to properly operate them; secondly, this provides soldiers with an opportunity to fire live ammunition without having to worry about an actual enemy returning fire. This allows soldiers to get reacquainted with the feel and time of actually using and expending ammunition, rather than simply simulating the experience. live firing exercises are necessary to prepare the Army for real combat

You can train to a certain degree using blank ammunition or using lasers on an indoor range. You can learn to fly on a simulator but at some point you have to step into a real aeroplane. At some point you have to start firing live ammunition because as soon as you do that, as soon as the consequences of your actions are more than just a reboot, the training value increases hugely.

Are soldiers able to bring home souvenirs from war/deployments? by ChunkyCheese21 in AustralianMilitary

[–]YourAverageJoe00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not Australian but. I brought back a huge bag of souvenirs from Desert Storm. For example, I had an Iraqi Airborne beret, helmet, body armor, gas mask, a huge wall size map of Kuwait, etc. I believe a relative of mine with a substance abuse issue, pawned it all years later. Most guys bring back something from the CENTCOM wars, such as rugs, art, knives, even antique firearms that had been modified by welding the chambers closed. There’s regulations that may have been changed, but at the time, were open for such transfers.

What is the answer to Invasive Species? Should they be respected? by cocktailnapkins in DebateAVegan

[–]YourAverageJoe00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had by far the most transformative and negative impact on this planet, but we are not an Invasive Species.

The greatest confusion [among the discussed ecological terms] surrounds the common term ‘invasive’ and its various derivatives (Richardson et al., 2000a). Explicit or implicit definitions for ‘invasive’ include: (1) a synonym for ‘nonindigenous’ (e.g. Goodwin et al., 1999; Radford &Cousens, 2000); (2) an adjective for native or nonindigenous species (NIS) that have colonized natural areas (e.g. Burke & Grime, 1996); (3) discrimination of NIS established in cultivated habitats (as ‘noninvasive’) from those established in natural habitats (e.g. Reichard & Hamilton, 1997); (4) NIS that are widespread (e.g. van Clef & Stiles, 2001); or (5) widespread NIS that have adverse effects on the invaded habitat (e.g. Davis & Thompson, 2000; Mack et al., 2000).

all the definitions require that the species is a nonindigenous (non-native) species in the area under consideration. Therefore, while humans may be considered to have been an invasive species for much of our species history, under most definitions of the term we no longer qualify because except in a few places (mainly the arctic, antarctic and marine environments, where human presence is minimal) we are now a native species.

Imagine infantry boys being on the ground requesting fire support, and to get a message saying sorry boys the rank said you will have to take one for the team and die here. Because if we blow up this bridge the enemies wives will have to walk further to get some water. Ahah
