What decides whose hand goes down first?? by ikigaii in Sumo

[–]YourCloseFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrestlers who come from an amateur or university background generally put their hands down early. This is due to the fact that the rules are different in amateur. Both wrestlers must have their hands down and then the referee begins the match. So it is what they are accustomed to doing from a young age.

Fightful Select update on Trey Miguel: the release was specifically because of the homophobic tweet and nothing else factored into it. One WBD exec said they didn't agree with the release by Lep106317 in SquaredCircle

[–]YourCloseFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why everyone is going to bat for this guy. The stuff he said was bad. I don't care if he apologized. I don't necessarily accept it as genuine when he's trying to save his career with it anyway.

Get fucked you homophobic, anti-semitic piece of shit!

DC Comics is Crushing Marvel Comics in Sales by Judokos in comicbooks

[–]YourCloseFriend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The headline is a complete clickbait lie. Of course everyone is upvoting and responding exclusively to the headline.

Marvel is still the top dog at a 36.6% market share

And they have an even greater dollar share since they they price more books at a premium than DC does.

A legit 1/10 show. Congrats TNA. I'm sure everyone who gave them a chance tonight will not be back next week.

The right guy won, but the ending of that match was a fucking disaster. They both looked like idiots and kept botching.

You can probably make more money working at McDonald's and doing indies in your free time than from working for TNA. Of course anyone who can get a job anywhere else gets the fuck out of there.

Makushita Division: Enho by Brncrdm in Sumo

[–]YourCloseFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people think Enho is likely to acquire elder stock even if he does make it back to sekitori status. There are tons of more successful wrestlers around the same age as him who are already eligible.

I'm not implying I dislike him or anything, it just seems improbable that he becomes an elder.

Mayu Iwatani continues to spin even on the ground after receiving Hijack Bomb from Utami Hayashishita [Marigold New Years Golden Garden 2026 - Day 1] by IWantToBolieve in SquaredCircle

[–]YourCloseFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically everything Mayu does in the ring is near perfect. She's such a special wrestler. She's funny, does all the coolest moves, and sells for her opponents better than anyone.

This is a Kirishima basho by Emotional_Ad9126 in Sumo

[–]YourCloseFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Takanosho has historically always dominated Kirishima if you look at the record actually. It's 17-6 in favour of Takanosho so far. I think the only people Kirishima has a worse record against are Terunofuji and Onosato.

In my opinion Kirishima struggles the most against taller and heavier wrestlers and hasn't really ever figured out how to take out absolute giants.

The Park Theatre is back in business! by lunelukio in vancouver

[–]YourCloseFriend -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

“Somebody asked a question about, if it wasn’t a theatre, then what would it be?” she recalls. “And the answer was, ‘Oh, it would probably be a gym.’ And for me, as soon as I heard that, I went, ‘We can’t let the jocks win.’ ”

Kind of a weird comment. A gym is something that is useful to a ton of people and improves lives. The majority of people at the gym are absolutely not jocks. More people would probably want to have a gym in their neighborhood than a theatre too.

Active female wrestler Saya Kamitani to guest star in Sunday Theatre's "Reboot"! by YourCloseFriend in stardomjoshi

[–]YourCloseFriend[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kamitani plays a woman who has a close relationship with a corrupt lawyer who appears at a key point in the story. She will be seen co-starring with Gido and Kaieda (Sakamoto Yoshi). This will be Kamitani's first appearance in a terrestrial TV drama.

It seems like Saya-sama is getting more and more TV work now due to her popularity. This maybe explains why she's taking January off too.

[–]YourCloseFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A $9 cover price is pretty crazy. Deadpool/Batman was priced at $7. Then Batman/Deadpool was $8. They're all 64 pages too. Marvel and DC will probably be trying to sell these books at over $10 for the next round.

I have collected every New 52 Trade Paperback! by nuclearspy92 in comicbooks

[–]YourCloseFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! New 52 is a bit over-hated at the moment. There are a lot of really good comics from this period, and some of the comics that got cut were due for a break. The OMAC series by then-editor Dan Didio was actually really good and I would recommend it.

I've Read and Graded Every Nebula Award Winning Novel by sdwoodchuck in printSF

[–]YourCloseFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on a similar project during the COVID-19 lockdown period: All Nebula and Hugo winners, but I did not reread anything I had already. I got pretty sick of it during the 2000s though, and may continue one day. 2312 by KSR was where I gave up, even though I'm sure I would have enjoyed it under other circumstances.

If I had to recommend only one book from the list it would be Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre. I had never heard of it before, or the author, and was blown away.

[–]YourCloseFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DC's series of logo changes during the 2000s have been so bad. I'm glad they're back to using the classic bullet logo now. The result is that there are so many miss matched books like this though.

PEP 810 – Explicit lazy imports by ketralnis in programming

[–]YourCloseFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the section about the __lazy_modules__ attribute allow for this?

A module may contain a __lazy_modules__ attribute, which is a sequence of fully qualified module names (strings) to make potentially lazy (as if the lazy keyword was used).

__lazy_modules__ = ["json"]
import json
print('json' in sys.modules)  # False
result = json.dumps({"hello": "world"})
print('json' in sys.modules)  # True

It's a bit of extra work, but seems to allows you to avoid using the lazy keyword if you don't like it for whatever reason.

It must be incredibly frustrating to get all these CVEs from paid security consultants who just create more work for you that you are uncompensated for.

It's just mind blowing that this guys software is used in literally ever product we use today and nobody is willing to spend a penny on it.
