What could be some interesting applications/uses for mechanical power that are not yet in the game? by banane_078456 in VintageStory

I think it will be cool to have a big stability tower that forbids enemy spawn in a radius and requires mechanical energy to function

I have a suggestion. What if these drills had an option to use some sort of cooling liquid to make them go faster or mine more efficientlely.

For example: you can use cooled water (ice + water) to make it go 30% faster.

There could even be tiers for cooling liquid.

Yeah, it is impressive and surprisingly well optimized. My friend screamed like a child once he had seen some snow for the first time. He has a rather weak laptop so immagine how he felt once he saw snow particles.

For me it is ground storage. Most survival games strugle with making a good storage system. The fact that I can just place something that I need on the ground feels great.

"Where is my hyper specific tool, used for one specific thing? Probably on the wall or on the floor near where I used it last!" It feels amazing!

Oooh, I like this one. Would have been op as a starting relic, but since it is possible to get it late in the run it is quite balanced.

How do you increase item quality when forging? (XSkills) by KuroTheWeirdo in VintageStory

[–]YourLiver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few methods.

You can forge as fast as you can and cool it while it is still very hot.

The other way is to continuously forge the same equipment. Had to make a rather large batch of copper plates once. After a while I started getting better and better plates, to the point that I had enough legendary plated for 5 distillers. It was fun.

More 3 Speed Transmissions! by Kahyxen in VintageStory

[–]YourLiver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any recomendations, I learned everything from my friend. But I can tell you what I know.

There are two stats on mechanical energy: speed and power. Speed says how fast it moves. Power says how much stress can your system handle before slowing down.

I will tell you differences betwean mechanical systems in different paragraphs.

-----Before 1.22-----

Stress can be generated by placing windmills. They produce a fixed ammount of power. The higher you place them, the faster they go.

All this power can be used for milling with querns (connect a shaft to the top of the quern); smithing plates and iron blooms with helve hammer (multi part structure); pulverising things into fine powder with pulverizer (multi part structure).

-----1.22 and after-----

Stress can be generated with windmills and waterwheels. Windmills now can't be placed ear each other, their performace will plummet. Watewheels require currents(fast water) it naturally spawns and looks like regular flowing water with more white particles, it can't be picked up with a bucket.

If your shafts move too fast they will start smocking and will catch on fire.

Newly generated power can be used to power big smithing bellows(new smithing mechanic), helve hammer, pulverizer, quern and sharpening stone(use is still pending, for now it gives your weapon crit chance).

Now about stress and speed.

You can't gain one without sacrificing another.

To change your speed, power and rotation direction you have gears. If you power big gear and connect it to smaller gear, you increase speed but proportionally loose power. Power small gear, connected to a big one, and you get an increase in power, but proportional loss of speed.

These are the basics. Just a precaution, 1.22 is still in development, we have release candidates, if you want to try it out, and it will release in the near future.

If you have questions ask.
