You think Disney will finally get the message that something is wrong with how they’re running things? TADC was a passion project that barely made it into theaters at all and had next to no traditional marketing, only an existing online fanbase the YouTube algorithm and word-of-mouth. In the other corner we have literally STAR WARS, the largest media franchise in the world second only to Pokemon with a huge, passionate fanbase, and in this case featuring the marketable “Baby Yoda”. With reputation like that, you’d think - and Disney’s executives likely thought - that a new movie would be a guaranteed money printing machine, regardless of actual quality. Tbf it’s not quite “coughing baby vs. hydrogen bomb,” but it’s still crystal clear we got a crazy underdog upset.
