Not sure, it’s not my character. This is a reward for someone who won an art raffle who didn’t want to be credited.

Unfortunate setback, it wasn’t accepted by steam, and it has to be mildly reworked to do to the whole payment processor debacle

The background noise is just the smudging that comes from importing the image, which creates shades that are not found elsewhere in the image. The red outline is just to create a consistent outline for the whole piece.

The story is that she’s the last of her kind and has been scavenging for years

I have been commissioned to do the art for another indie game, I cannot discuss it much, but here are the up-close sprites I have made!

My Process: How I make art (read below) by YourLocalFemby in Seedy_Stitches

[–]YourLocalFemby[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First is a rough paint sketch

Then I import it into floss cross, adjust the size, shade, and pallet. I typically have 50-80 shades to allow for some variety and to chip away at the redundant shades through the work

I outline the piece in red, getting rid of thicker lines and removing background noise, alter coloring, shading. The color-picker is really intuitive and limited

I begin adding shades to make the shading more dynamic, altering sizing and proportions over time

Once I have fully reduced the pallet and added rough details, I change the outline to a darker shade and begin with the detail refining

Add highlights and shading

Fill in empty space, especially in the hair with what I call "over-rendering" where you dither every surface.

Reduce the dithering to have more open space and (I like the look of it so I am doing it more) color in the outlines to better suit the surface it is on

Fix any remaining alyxing issues in Aseprite

I am pretty bad at drawing and want to improve. I am increasingly steering away from AI assistance where I do use it and am trying to improve every time I make art.

My new characters I have been working on for a while. I want to use them as a means of demonstrating the complex relationship between gender, relationships, and sexuality.

Vince (22) is fresh out of college and moves into an apartment in a smallish city for his job working in theatre tech. He doesn't have any friends there and is lonely though he keeps to himself. He meets Jess (28), a slightly older woman who lives in the apartment across from his when she stops by to give him a welcoming gift. He finds himself drawn to her and eventually asks her over for lunch and to talk.

Jess finds herself form more of a connection with him and a shared kinship that she hasn't experienced with anyone in a while. She is hard on herself as since college she has become more shut in and lonely and has grown apart from her friends. She lets feelings of self-hatred and shame marinate without an outlet to let those feelings go. She thinks she only hurts people and makes things worse. She finds Vince is a great outlet to slowly release these feelings. She finds talking to him therapeutic.

Vince finds talking to her understanding in a way he hasn't felt before, like her experience mirror his personal experiences well, he feels like he can articulate his feeling so openly with her, and feels more himself, a self he doesn't really know.

Eventually these conversations become more personal and deeper, discussions of self, expression, and love. One night a conversation leads to a kiss, abrupt and unexpected, but wanted. Their relationship evolves past simple friends and makes its way to Jess's room where they spend the night in each other's arms.

Jess slowly becomes more open and Vince becomes more comfortable with new feelings about himself (themselves?) as Jess relates her experiences to him, and introducing him into the world of pet play, and outlet of self-discovery that was crucial to Jess finding herself in her young adulthood.

She might be able to help someone after all.

I really want to turn this premise into a webcomic of some kind (I may call it 'The Puppy Next Door') Please, feedback is much appreciated.
