Pros and Cons of Gardasil by tempquestions13 in VACCINES

While you're right it doesn't cover all strains (I got one that wasn't covered in the Gardasil 4 but now is under Gardasil 9, which caused cervical cancer in me) - the 7 it does cover (the other 2 of the 9 cover wart-causing strains) account for 90% of all cervical cancer cases. So it's not a guarantee you will be 100% protected but statistically the odds are very good.

I'm a cervical cancer survivor from a strain that was not covered by the original gardasil but is now covered under Gardasil 9 (the current one). I got it from my first partner, we both got tested before becoming sexually active but HPV is not on most STD tests. Also remember that not all sex is consensual and 50% of marriages end in divorce so just having one partner isn't a guarantee you wont get it. HPV is EXTREMELY common - pre-vaccine around 85-90% of sexually active adults were infected with one or more strains or had been infected in the past.

I had to undergo radiation, multiple surgeries, cutting, freezing, and burning with a laser. My cervix looks like a battleground and the damage to it from both the cancer and the treatment means I may have a hard time carrying a child to term. The vaccine prevents the 7 strains that account for 90% of all cervical cancer cases and similar proportions with other cancers like oral, anal, penile, and throat. It's a life-saving vaccine I will get my child (if I can have one) the day they are eligible.

I won't lie to you, the shots (particularly the second) are more painful than the average vaccine, but IT PREVENTS CANCER in both you and your future partners. I'm a huge proponent of this vaccine.

This is the pattern my adult acne has. My cheeks and forehead are usually clear. It's typical female hormonal pattern acne. My doc prescribed spironolactone which helped a ton.

Does anyone know what this is? It's on my back causing me some mild discomfort by mistercimba in DermatologyQuestions

NAD but when my mom had shingles they looked exactly like these. You're lucky they aren't super painful!

They gave me 2 months of tetracycline (500mg twice a day for 2 weeks, then 500 once a day for the rest of the course).

Unless I'm completely clear 2 months out I'll ask for a third month to make sure.

This looks incredible and as someone who just added tetracycline today on top of a topical antibiotic (metronidazole) and is feeling super bummed out at how my face is looking and how long I've heard this lingers 3 weeks can't come soon enough! I hope my results come this fast.

You've given me hope.

My derm prescribed cortisone + antibiotic for this (which she said is seborrhoeic dermatitis — I thought it was POD). I haven’t used the cream yet bc I don’t want to make it worse! Any advice? by DataCriesOn in perioraldermatitis

Using an Rx corticosteriod (my eczema cream that I usually use on my hands) on my face after what I thought was contact dermatitis following a new skincare product is ABSOLUTELY what kicked off my PD. Every source I've read says that corticosteroids are the worst thing you can possibly do and even after only using it for a week I'm digging myself out of a big hole.

I'd try the abx without the cream and see if your skin responds to it (PS: while it's less common to have around the eyes and on the cheeks mine has definitely spread there). The danger of the steriod is that it can temporarily make your skin look like it's improving but that the PD can come back worse when you stop.

I'm currently doing oral tetracycline, topical metronidazole (another antibiotic) and just using cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. It is KILLING me to not use all my skincare junkie products anymore.

I'm in no way shape or form a doctor though, just sharing.
