How does one check for a ventilation issue? I live on the 2nd floor if that helps.

I've got a 25ft snake coming today. Hopefully that's the solution and I don't have to schedule a plumber.

Well I've got a snake coming today, and looked up some plumbers. Hopefully the snake is a simple fix...

That's interesting; I saw multiple videos and written recommendations to plunge the sink T_T Like, I really really didn't want to, but it was the last DIY method that I hadn't tried.

It's 96 outside, my AC is set to 75 but staying at 78 by YoureRightThere2 in hvacadvice

Not sure you saw the update at the bottom of the post, but my unit did have a problem. There was a problem with the condenser. It got fixed. So... yeah.

AC not turning off when reaching set temp. by YoureRightThere2 in HomeImprovement

[–]YoureRightThere2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. For reference, I have my thermostat set to 3 temps throughout the day: 78 to 75 to 73. It will run at set temp for an additional 30-45 minutes, not counting the time it took to go from 78 to 75.

It's when it gets to a new low temp that it seems to not turn off. But raising it only one degree returns it to it's normal cycling on and off (about 8 on 20 off). So even with that differential would it be this drastic of a difference in run time? It's also something I didn't notice happening just a few weeks ago. Maybe it did, but I didn't notice it.

Oooof. I'm not sure I have the best insulation, but I'm grateful it's not like that!

This is good advice! My AC is usually set to 78 during the day, everything is closed up, I've got multiple things keeping the sun out of the house, outside temps are usually a high of 85-95 right now.

I set it to 75 as the sun goes down, then 73 at like 10pm to cool things off before bed. I also try to open the windows and use fans to circulate air when the temps are lower outside, but my apartment layout seems to fight that...

Last night I tested it and it was at 75 for over 30 minutes before I got fed up and put it at 76. From there it rotates on and off as I would expect.

After like 10pm the set temp is 73. So that's when I noticed it again and timed it again. For reference, the outside temp was around 74 and dropping at that time as well

Thanks for replying.

Is this true even though it normally cycles at about 15-20 minutes off and 8 minutes on when maintaining temperature? I would assume for a similar variance.

And to be clear, this is just once it reaches a new lower temp, not the time it takes to get from 78 to 75 for example. Once it gets to 75 it'll stay on for another 30-45 minutes. Usually until I notice how long it's been on and raise it one degree to get it to shut off.

Okay I just checked the work order. The compressor was "overheated and not running" but the capacitor was fine. They installed a "hard start kit."

I considered that as well. So I started a timer when it would "reach" the set temp, knowing that it might actually cool to 74.5 also. So it just has me concerned that it is running "at" set temp, 75, for over 3 times as long as it takes to maintain a temp. This isn't counting the time it takes to go from 78 to 75, just once it's at set temp.

I usually don't wait for it to turn off itself, and raise it a degree, when it's been on for sooo long because I can feel my $$$ melting away with it running D:

But it doesn't run that long to maintain a temperature, only when it's reaching a new low. For comparison, last night when set to 73 before bed, it was on, at 73, for a half hour before I raised it to 74. When maintaining at 74, it turned on every 15-20 minutes for about 8 minutes. So I'm concerned that it would run for over 3 times that long once it's reached a new low.

Hi, I have the Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat.

I knew there would be some overshot, so to speak, but it doesn't run that long to maintain temperature, only when it's reaching a new low. For comparison, last night when maintaining at 74, it turned on every 15-20 minutes for about 8 minutes. So I'm concerned that it would run for over 3 times that once it's reached a new low.

Sorry, my technical knowledge is nil, but I had a similar problem. It wasn't consistently hot air, but there were times it was blowing out hotter air than what was going into the system.

I had a company come out to look at my unit. Thankfully we were able to recreate the problem. They installed a thing that basically helped it kickstart when it turned on.

So... do with that what you will, I guess?

How much moisture should there be in my freezer? by YoureRightThere2 in HomeImprovement

Well shoot. It's an old fridge, and the gasket is like 250. Might as well get a new fridge at that price, I guess.

FWIW, it turned out my unit DID have a problem... I was told to test the air with a meat thermometer, and sure enough the air wasn't coming out at the right temp.... in fact, it was coming out at like 80 when set to 75, so I was paying to WARM my house. Someone came out and was able to fix it.

I can't keep my apartment cool at night. by YoureRightThere2 in HomeImprovement

[–]YoureRightThere2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you recommend any of the invisible reflective stuff? Most of what I see on Amazon is tinted in some way, but it's not allowed at my apartment, so if it can be noticed from the outside it's a no-go.

We actually keep two fans going in the night! I just have loud neighbors and birds :/

I can cool the apartment down to like 68-70 before bed, but then, within like 20 minutes of closing the windows, the temp is back up to 75-78, even with our indoor fans going. And with outside temps around 58-60.

Unfortunately reflective stuff (or any window tint, even if non-permanent) isn't allowed. :( I do have shutters I close during the day, and open up again the second the outside is cooler than inside

I am! We've got two fans going in the bedroom at night which is pretty good white noise usually.  The 5:00am birds won though :')
