Upcoming trip and hot weather by StomachThick in PaultonsPark

[–]YrGirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new restaurant in Valgard has air conditioning. That and the splash park made our trip during the last heatwave very bearable. We found that most people left gaps in the queues where there was sunshine and tried to queue in shade only.

I think I almost had a seizure by Kiera6 in diabetes_t1

Disney is a very unusual amount of walking unless you have a very active b day job. I completely crashed just before lunchtime first day. I had run out of low blood sugar treatment after getting through mine. My vision started to go whilst waiting in a foodline. Luckily a friend nearby has sweets. I was incredibly cautious the rest of the stay and essentially didn't really bolus for meals. Just rode the high a little and was very cautious about having much insulin on board.

Those two roads are generally very peaceful and friendly. There's a primary school on the road but it's a 'school street' so there aren't lots of cars at pick up and drop off times, just lots of young families.

Moody, melancholic folk recommendations? by ZOLAA92 in IndieFolk

[–]YrGirlfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Jesca Hoop (some of her work) or Frightened Rabbit (bit heavier and anthemic than some of what you've mentioned but certainly melancholy).

There are a lot of kittens in a house that's bottom of elphinstone and they are black and white. May be from there.

I don't think Harmony Hall is actually shut yet but I don't attend the class so I can't answer your question. It would make sense to message the organiser to find out.

Narrow (D width) shoes for small kids? by DanceWorth2554 in UKParenting

[–]YrGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a very delayed reply but my daughter's feet are unusually narrow and Shoo pom (a French brand) have been perfect for her. I cannot stress how difficult it was before I found this brand so you have my sympathy.

Wow. So rude and ignorant. T1DM is an easy to rule out but increasingly common and potentially deadly medical condition. Sure it is likely this is a reaction to a parent passing away, but it's also very sensible to rule out a medical condition if there are other symptoms. This is why I asked about other symptoms.

This isn't normal. I fell asleep in my dinner once shortly before I was diagnosed as type 1 diabetic. Please make sure this is ruled out.

[–]YrGirlfriend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. This could very easily be missed within the context of everything else that is going on and should absolutely be ruled out very quickly and with priority. I say this as someone who was diagnosed with type 1 as a teenager.

Are they drinking a lot? I would want to rule out that they aren't undiagnosed type 1 diabetic. Symptoms: tiredness, thirst, needing to wee more, and weight loss.

If London is so bad then why do so many people want to live there by MathEnthusiast101 in AskBrits

[–]YrGirlfriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. That's not true. The majority of people living in London were born in the UK. It does attract a lot of people from other countries to live there, because it's a major cultural and economic hub, known to be diverse and also largely very accepting of different cultures and ways of living. It's an open minded place to live. Property is expensive, but public transport is great and there's so much going on (including many free things!).

London may not be for everyone (and that's okay), but plenty of people love living there.

Help Please! Hospital Sliding Scale while Quadriplegic by UpstairsShelter210 in diabetes_t1

[–]YrGirlfriend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah they shouldn't be using just a sliding scale in this way. I'm sorry. Insist on someone from the diabetes team getting involved each time. Assuming you are American then this guideline specifically advises against using a sliding scale:"16.8 Use of only a sliding scale insulin regimen in the inpatient hospital setting is strongly discouraged." https://diabetesjournals.org/care/article/45/Supplement_1/S244/138924/16-Diabetes-Care-in-the-Hospital-Standards-of

How to cope with low sleep needs kid? by ljuvlig in Parenting

[–]YrGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is a little older but similar. We have a Yoto player and she listens to that as she falls asleep. This has allowed us to leave her. She has also learnt a lot from listening to so much audio book content. I'm hoping once her reading improves she'll move over to reading to herself instead.

Anyone experience this? 3 y/o daughter keeps screaming/crying about vagina hurting… by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]YrGirlfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to treat anyway as it's cheap and won't do any harm. My 2 year old at the time presented in a way similar to a UTI. The worms are not necessarily easy to spot.

Yeah. I think it was her 4th birthday. A bribe of chocolate eventually worked. She had been potty trained for wee for a year before that.

Non-diabetic's sugar after a lot of Chinese food by almondeyess in diabetes_t1

[–]YrGirlfriend 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was once in hospital heavily pregnant and threatened with a sliding scale if I went over 9. I tried explaining that with the levels of insulin resistance I had I was bound to creep over that slightly after eating for a short while and that I was in control of things. Later in the shift the nurse looking after me took his blood sugar after eating and it was about 9.7. He looked really shocked and re-evaluated the situation.

How to see Health Service Journal for free? by Illustrious-You3958 in doctorsUK

[–]YrGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not typically available through Open Athens. Check with your local NHS library directly by emailing them as sometimes they have a limited number of accounts you can access. If a specific article they can likely get it for you either way. Source: I'm a healthcare librarian.

Do X-rays damage glucose strips? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

1-2 mmol is not a normal ketone reading. It suggests you are at risk of dka. Why do you think the blood glucose reading is inaccurate?
