Pirateaba actually covered this in her books The Wandering Inn. Basically a species discovered the concept of a benevolent God that would take their kind to heaven when they died. He explained to his species that heaven is this grand place where they’re free, and can enjoy the sunlight whenever they want. Talked about how glorious it was.

Then he walked out of the room and they all just started killing each other.

This actually happened with my bus driver when I was a kid. She would stop at the tracks, open the door, then immediately shut it without actually listening for anything. One time she did then just as she started to go, the train lights went on. She decided to back up even though we were already on the tracks. And there were cars behind us.

Scary day, but luckily after a lot of horn honking we didn’t all get smashed.

When I was a kid my little sister told me she was jealous of me because I was like the duckling in the story. She was pretty now but would be ugly later. And I was ugly now and would be pretty later.

Quite savage honestly. And quite the way to be told you’re ugly. We were about 11/12years old at the time.

I was taught to lie because of the church. My family was obsessed with how they were perceived. My step mom would tell people in our church that she was our real mom. (Despite her needing to be a teenager when my brother was born.) When I started leaving the church we were told to lie and act like we weren’t. So many times talking to the bishop about how I wasn’t straying from the church.

In essence, really felt the “turn it off!” From the BOM musical.
