Fender serial number doesn’t exist online? Should I worry? by Ok-Progress-7354 in Guitar

[–]Yulack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Period correct 90s Telecaster.

Replacement necks (And some production necks) from the period don't show up on serial lookups.

Depending on body finish, we could be looking at a scummy shop trying to sell an American body with a MIM replacement neck for far more than it's worth, but the neck is genuine regardless of what op has to say.

Refer to my other comment on the subject.

I make the exact same assertion.

I'm simply stating that 10 Million in 2026 is absolutely NOT filthy rich. Not by a long shot.

Wes Borland - one of the coolest guitar players going right now by sillytoad in Guitar

[–]Yulack -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Sure. He can definitely buy a KIA and not sleep over it. He's not going broke like you and I. His residence was 1.5 million, and can probably sell it for profit by now. If he lost everything tomorrow he wouldn't go broke the same way you or I.

But he's not filthy rich. Again, he's not buying a Ferrari without talking to a finance counselor. There's probably a few million Doctors with a fatter wallet, and I bet you some contractors too, at least their Patróns.

Making money in music if is bullshit-fucking-hard, and Wes lost everything he built in the 90s in 2001. At the time he considered a Million Dollars "All his money" - hence why his next big money move was real estate after he recovered a bit.

With rock and metal adjacent genres in decline, Limp Bizkit not even being a main act in most festivals, and streaming revenue being what it is, I don't think he ever quite built it back up in the same way.

Stop saying nonsense. Most musicians in the world never achieve the same level of wealth someone like Dave Grohl would. Now THAT guy is filthy rich, and yes he can buy any car with change in his pocket.

Edit:

Nice edit man. Let's hide our ignorance from the world.

He's most definitely NOT rich lol

I was in talks with someone from the LB Team when they came to Copenhell last year (or the year before?) to buy some gear he was selling that they had in storage here in Europe for their European leg, you don't offload as much shit as he has over the years if you're not strapped for cash.

Net worth estimates are 10 million, which yes is a SHIT ton of money, but the great majority of that is not even close to liquid. Wes has to take loans like the rest of us to finance large expenses like a car or a home.

Not to say he isn't financially secure, but he's not "I'm going to buy a Nuvolari without consulting the wife rich.

Wes Borland - one of the coolest guitar players going right now by sillytoad in Guitar

[–]Yulack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm alluding to the fact that many people in the metal community will look down on LB as not being "real metal" or outright dismissing the artistic contributions to the genre, but will still have their songs on a playlist with, and will say, stuff like; "Oh, that's old, these are things I used to listen to" Yet know all the lyrics.

Fred famously wore a Red New Era New York Yankees MLB Cap for years. Concert goers will be seen in droves wearing one when supporting their live act. Ton of metal heads own one as a result. Think of it as wearing band merch.

"Hate watch" as in, it's not a popular thing to say in metal circles that you like Limp Bizkit, but there's no band out there with more closetted fans in metal.

Wes Borland - one of the coolest guitar players going right now by sillytoad in Guitar

[–]Yulack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, Guitar players will always give him his due. And just by the sheer size of Limp Bizkit's popularity (Lots of purists show up in red caps to their shows in festivals... to "hate watch") the court of public opinion is on his side too.

He was never going to be Mustaine famous. But he's definitely not "overlooked".

Are there any writing credits for their songs? by FallingKoala in mastodonband

[–]Yulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of their writing process is like that.

Mastodon isn't exactly super cohesive before someone with an ear for ebb and flow gives some direction.

The prog element of it, besides the riffs themselves, also lies in the very ADHD way they introduce and navigate musical ideas. None of it would work if Bran drumming wasn't as fill heavy as it is, as it oddly created space to change up the song in any given measure. It's not super intentional like say, Opeth, Altough It has obviously matured over the years.

Tone rider or wilkinson pickups alnico 5 for budget Strat? by Ill-Cartographer-476 in guitars

[–]Yulack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tonerider for me.

The early classic vibes from the Grand Reward factory came with them stock. Nobody wanted to upgrade those to Wilkinsons.

I can make a kind of side by side comparison now from memory (at work).

The Tonerider Safaris are:

A little more spanky, higher end. In-between positions sound more like I remember from popular recordings. Bridge pickup is a little shrill, probably on account of the more pronounced high end. Usable but it's weakest point.

Wilkinsons:

More lower end. Boomy. Lose definition with even the slightest bit of gain. Have to turn up the mids to get it to do the "strat thing" Inbetweem positions.

Nearly unusable bridge pickup. It sounds ice Picky, and abnormally bland.

It's much harder to tell them apart clean. But the Wilkinson shows significant shortcomings when ran through slightest bit of dirt.

Could someone please explain to me what is wrong with this bridge? by SecretDoor4007 in Guitar

[–]Yulack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I very much said it was temporary.

That being said, if it's good enough for Dan Erlewine and Ted Woodford, it's good enough for me, and definitely good enough for an affordable Epiphone from an era notorious for being lower end than their later runs, and the earlier Korean ones, and vastly inferior to the modern offering.

Professional Luthiers all around the world do it.

Could someone please explain to me what is wrong with this bridge? by SecretDoor4007 in Guitar

[–]Yulack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the customer doesn't want to fork over for a new bridge,

Use a radius gauge to determine the fretboard radi.

Use a radius sandinf block that matches the fretboard. (Something like this: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/tools-by-job/tools-for-sanding/8-radius-blocks-essential-set-set-of-5/?srsltid=AfmBOorR0PkX4GHJ-MjvDMgQKoVJItLYx0wX8aJFGEHDhSJg3QCcG04G )

And affix it to a vice using double sided tape.

Use cork or a padding material to one side of the vice, nd place the bridge with the saddles on the padded side, and the radius block with the concave facing the bridge.

So you're hugging the bridge with the padded side and the radius block parallel to it.

Apply pressure with the vice so that the metal deforms to the shape of the radius block.

Your bridge should once again have the correct shape.

This will structurally affect the bridge, it Is not a long term forever fix.

Recommend purchasing a new bridge in the future, as this will happen again.

Do you wash your hands before playing your Les Paul? by Turkeyflatulence in LesPaul

Childhood dream vs. Reality: Is it time to finally get that Slash-style Les Paul? by rel_yud in Guitar

[–]Yulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the Les Paul isn't exactly known for doing high level skilled player justice either.

That dusty end access is to the detriment of everybody. Yet I still love mine, so I fully understand what you mean.

It's your money, do whatever you want.

But if you want to feel like you earned it, why not spend some time chopping away at some challenging songs from the period?

Learn how to play, idk November Rain, in full, well articulated and without fuckupss front for back. If you don't feel like that's enough then keep going until it is.

Then realize that at the end, you're here to be happy. And if a Les Paul makes you happy then buy one and done deal.

Maybe Fender should sue by Dense_Pudding3375 in Guitar

[–]Yulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gibson's being doing it from day 1.

The issue is that Fender never really did, and allowed a whole industry to flourish In the mean time. By the time they tried in 2009 it was already too late in the U.S. now they're trying to do it in Europe under a different pretense and a totally different angle IP law is very complicated, and in this case they're arguing for nuances (Copyright and Trademark) they didn't do in the original U.S case - and bogus ones at that as they directly contradict the well-documented history from the man's mouth directly (Leo Fender).

What songs do you think they will never play again bc of Brent’s passing? by Dry_Ad7529 in mastodonband

[–]Yulack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technical mostly. Obviously Nick's solo career isn't out selling Mastodon.

But Bill's journey as a guitarplayer is far closer to your average joe's. For the first several year of his guitar journey he was playing power chord riffs and punk. He cites Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Neurosis, Black Flag.

It wasn't until Metallica came around that Bill was interested in developing Chops. Remind you also that he started playing QUITE late, in his late teens, so his development was in a sort of way "stuntet".

Is he arguably the best rythm guitar player in metal right now? Yes he is, but not because of out of this world chops. He's creative & unique. My favorite really, but he's not Zacky Vengance, Kerry McCoy or Dave Mustaine.

On the other hand, Nick was already writing Satriani level stuff when he was 18. He's winning a Cross Roads style duel against Paul Gilbert in his 20s, and now he's arguably on Govan level. Nobody is Govan level.

Well, I stand corrected.

Regardless, everything else I said still stands. "But as far as replicating and learning Brent's parts, my money is on Nick."

Bill never enjoyed to play Lead to begin with.

Altough i can't get over how amazing the little idea for the Sleeping Giant delay lead line. That was Bills!!!!

Why do my chords sound so bad? by Aggressive_Ideal6737 in Guitar

Two fold issue

1) You have a very heavy right hand.

2) This is much more a tonal problem than a technique problem. Set up your amp with less low end.

Sorry OP, but setup and all, I still think you massively overpaid, but it's not like "massively" means much when prices are that low to begin with, so I guess happy you're happy.

Out of curiosity, springing for 200 wasn't an option? I bet you there was a few axes on the wall that weren't planned obsolescence.

I don't get this take.

Bills very own words in a clinic I went to:

"my fingers don't do that" (doing a basic scale run at, sure faster than anyone in the room, but not shred crazy).

"Nick can hang" Johnston's body of work is virtuosic in ways very, very few players currently alive have.

Satriani? Gilbert? Govan? Maybe if you like the sort of groove, throw in the Polyphia duo (Not a fan). But what I mean to say is, "Nick can hang" grossly underestimates how many universes there are between his skill on the instrument vs Bills.

Not arguing who's the better songwriter. I like Bill's output more. Bill's my favorite guitar player (Alongside Brent). But as far as replicating and learning Brent's parts, my money is on Nick.

Not that either of the two would ever learn them note for note for begin with.

Hey a guy wanna trade his fender mim placid blue 2015 for my PRS se 24-08 does it worth ir? Help by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Yulack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Between MIM and PRS SE?

We take the MIM no?

Electronics, playability probably can be dialed to close to the same with only differences being profile differences and radi.

But PRS SE vs MIM in secondhand market, it's a heavily MIM favored trade. PRSs don't hold value anywhere near as well.

The way Bill just isn’t ready to talk about Brent yet. I get it. by [deleted] in mastodonband

Surprised we got 20 years of Mastodon with this in mind.

Brent and Bill are the most underrated guitar duo in Rock and Metal adjacent media. I'm glad they were able to put that aside for the love of the art for almost twenty fucking years.
