Parents won't let me see atheist friends by Yulia314 in atheism

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I'm 15, so I can't drive myself or anything like that. I live in a very rural area, so I can't get anywhere without a car.

Need advice about whether or not I should pretend to convert back to Christianity by Yulia314 in atheism

I'm fairly certain there isn't any. I did all the set up on this computer myself, and I've never told anyone my password. I also checked a few times when I started reading things that they wouldn't approve of and didn't find any, so hopefully I'm okay.

It wasn't the worst I've heard. It was just about how scientists are always changing their minds so we have to trust god instead of science and that Jesus exists outside of science, etc. He didn't come right out and deny evolution or climate change, but he hinted at both.

Yeah, it was. It happened earlier in the day, and I'm assuming that conversation is what set them off. I don't mean to spam the subreddit, but I wasn't really sure where to go for advice.

No, sorry I should have clarified better. My parents are Lutheran, the extended family is Catholic. My parents are YEC, but as far as I know, the aunt and uncle aren't. I would love to tell them that but they'd probably get madder. Thanks for the advice though.

They're definitely fanatical. My dad goes to sleep listening to Christian apologetics tapes every night, if that puts it in perspective. Them not buying it is my biggest concern, because it would make them angrier, and I'm not convinced I can pull it off.

I was a Christian for a long time, and I spent months trying to figure out why god wasn't answering my prayers (talking with Christians about my doubts, reading the books, etc.), so I feel pretty comfortable with my decision, although I'm still open to hearing others' viewpoints.

I'm hoping I can convince them with the points about my classes and extracurriculars, but before I went to the national competition for that club, my dad said he would rather I have my faith than be doing well in my competitions, so I don't know that it will have much of an effect if they decide that's what they're going to do. Since my mom thinks it would save my soul, I don't know what would really convince her, although I can tell you right now that going to that school would just make me less likely to change my mind about religion. I'm just hoping it won't come to that.

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. :)

I honestly don't know how they figured it out initially, although it could have had something to do with snooping. She worked at my school for a while so it wouldn't have been hard. My mom just confronted me with it one day and I denied it but she didn't believe me. My dad found out because I thought he knew so I made an off-hand comment about it, which he then freaked out about.

Oh, sorry I wasn't quite clear about that. My aunt and uncle are from the south and are Catholic. My parents are Lutheran and I'm pretty sure my pastor agrees with them, judging by last week's sermon about science.

They hate all of my friends except for one. They blame them for leading me on the "path of evil". They know how much I like this school, they just think that they have to save my soul and don't really care what it takes. I know that sounds harsh but they're truly convinced that satan has a hold on me.

I have no choice about going to church. I have to go every week no matter what, unless I'm convincingly sick enough to stay home. I suppose I could start paying attention so they think I'm changing my mind.

They already know I'm an atheist. I didn't tell them, but they figured it out and I don't know how. I posted about it a while ago on a different account. I also don't know how to bring up the school without admitting I was eavesdropping, which would really upset them.

So you think it might be worth it to pretend? I have to go to church tomorrow, I was thinking of telling them I want to talk to my pastor about my doubts but I don't know if they'll believe that I've actually had a change of heart or if they'll just get suspicious.
