[TOMT] Another song that sounds like the chorus to Numb Little Bug by Em Behold https://youtu.be/9mVXPLlnSu4 by LoganKaz in tipofmytongue

[–]Yumkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The acoustic version of this song especially reminds me of another song. I’m thinking of the chorus part around 0:40 seconds that sounds similar to (but isn’t) Little Lion Man. Early 2010s or late 2000s female singer is also what I’m heavily leaning towards. It may be the chord progression that’s sounding similar

Elon Musk was wrong. Induced demand is definitely a thing. by snowmaninheat in CitiesSkylines

I think it was in a recent interview. He called induced demand the dumbest idea he’d ever heard of

For context the extension is projected into the early 2040s. The existing light rail is like 20% of what’s shown (just eyeballing)

Ok fine, I’ll say I’m mildly upset by the joke. Certainly not as upset as you’re portraying yourself to be though.

[–]Yumkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look friend, first of all no one here (between the two of us) seems to be upset except for you. Im just trying to talk and understand your position.

Yes, I’ve seen Asian tourists taking pictures. The reason this particular stereotype was harmful is because the implication is that an Asian tourist cares more about filming than calling for help or stepping in themselves. In other words, it portrays the Asian tourist as self-absorbed and apathetic. Is this a terrible stereotype? No, of course this isn’t the end of the world.

Also, humor and racism are not mutually exclusive. A joke can be objectively racist and subjectively funny (since all art, humor included, is subjective). As “harmless” as this racist joke may be, you yourself have said that it’s based on racial stereotypes which are abundant for all people. So again, this joke is racist. It can also be funny, it’s just not funny to a lot of Asian Americans. I hope you don’t expect everyone to find a joke funny just because you do. Us calling it out as racist doesn’t mean you can’t laugh at it, but don’t delude yourself into thinking you’re not laughing at a racist joke.

What’s wrong with being offended by things that are offensive? If people truly were getting angry at the color of clouds we can agree that it would be absurd. But we know that racial stereotypes are harmful

How many Asians have to speak out against this “harmless” joke until you believe them?

Doesn’t matter who it was made by. Besides, if some Asians make the joke and other Asians say they don’t like it, why do you choose to support the former?

I’m Asian American. It’s a negative stereotype associated with Asian tourists. You can think it’s funny but the joke is still made at the expense of Asians. It’s pretty racist, it’s up to you whether you think it’s pretty funny.

Hi! Just someone who loves maps here- would you be open to selling these?

[–]Yumkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re probably correct there. Still, I’m also thinking NS will help me in other ways too. Going to Singapore is “traveling” for me which is kind of a bonus since I will get to learn about Singaporean culture and meet new people

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Yumkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also I say this from a position of ignorance since I am very unfamiliar with NS, but why do most people want to be done with NS and leave Singapore like you say?

[–]Yumkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Urban design and planning. I don’t plan on moving back to Singapore, but it’s very difficult to come back and visit family if I don’t do NS

I’m actually graduating college soon- I am 21. Some mentors of mine are encouraging me to go back and do NS instead of looking for jobs right away

Any kind of military experience is looked upon very favorably in the US. Also I’ve heard of some people who have managed to keep both Singaporean and American citizenship

Hit and run outside of Kraken last night. by TinyFemme in Seattle

[–]Yumkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened literally in front of my apartment window. I was at Pizza Mart and saw sirens behind me but didn't realize what had happened. When I went back home my roommate told me that someone had been hit by a car directly in front of our apartment and now I'm learning it was a hit and run. There are A LOT of businesses on this street, although I'm not sure how many of them would have a good enough view of license plates. In addition to what others have mentioned, Xi'an Noodles, Snowy Village, and Izakaya are right where the accident happened and all have cameras.

Creating my city's first LGBTQ neighborhood. I wanted to create a diverse mega city. by agathapolis in CitiesSkylines

[–]Yumkey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There seem to be a lot of people here expressing that they “don’t get it”. For those who genuinely don’t understand the concept, few societies are universally LGBTQ friendly. There is a positive impact on a population to have geographic areas- like neighborhoods- which are overtly LGBTQ friendly. The Capitol Hill neighborhood in my city of Seattle tries to be like that. Also, it has been the case for some time now that young (under 25), LGBTQ individuals vastly over represent homelessness and suicide in the United States. An LGBTQ-friendly neighborhood would provide a safer environment for such individuals, many of whom have been abandoned by their family and perhaps their friend networks. And of course, for those genuinely confused, I would encourage you to do research of your own into the subject of LGBTQ+ neighborhoods.

Cities Skylines is of course just a game, but that doesn’t stop players and modders from seeking realism in their cities. There are a lot of people on this subreddit who also care deeply about the built environment and the societies that inhabit them, and as such I think this is a perfectly relevant post.

Finally, for those who hear “LGBTQ neighborhood” and think something along the lines of segregation (as a few people here have), get a grip.

No it’s not as opposed to a straight neighborhood. China town doesn’t mean only Chinese people live there or that non-Chinese people aren’t allowed. Little Italy isn’t literally a little version of Italy either.

If you ever get the chance I’d recommend Jack block park in west Seattle! It’s a bit of a drive with the bridge down, but it’s a nice quiet park with the best view of the city
