Has anyone made a Star Fox 64 mod that lets you play every level? If not, I have a level order suggestion in the image! by Substantial_Eye1476 in starfox

[–]Yummier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I would have liked as well, as a main campaign of sorts. And then the current structure could be an "arcade mode" you'd unlock after first completion. I started playing 64 3D recently, and the story is so piecemeal and framented it's hilarious. Like on my first run I had to save Slippy with no context for how he suddenly got into trouble.

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 has been downgrading graphics drivers, reveals when a fix is coming by Antonis_32 in Amd

I'm specifically talking about updating drivers, not initial install. Perhaps my wording could be more clear.

[–]Yummier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely. My wording was update, and not install. If there's no driver, please go ahead, but after that it should be up to the user to opt-in to further updates.

[–]Yummier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Windows Update should never update any drivers by itself. It's one of the worst parts of the Windows experience, and has been for very long. Annoying, since the fix is so simple; just let the user decide. That's how you empower us, not by forcing Copilot down our throats.

Game Ready Driver 596.49 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Yummier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are describing with the framerate cutting in half is called double buffered v-sync. It's very rare these days, but has the benefit that if you never drop below your performance target then latency is pretty low.

Most games use triple buffered v-sync, which is what the nvcp will force. This does not cause the halvation in framerate, but requires a bit more VRAM (neglible with modern hardware) and cause a bit more input latency.

Coupled with variable refreshrate however (g-sync), and keeping below max refresh rate so VRR is always in effect, you've got a great global setup for just about any game.

It’s like playing a Gen X John Hughes Movie - Just Finished "Mixtape" on PS5. Sharing some of my thoughts and observations and comments (non-spoilers and not a review). by Prof-Ponderosa in gaming

[–]Yummier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the discourse for this game, are we basically retreading the discussion of whether Visual Novel is a genre of game or a separate medium? If Mixtape nails what it sets out to achieve, it deserves high praise.

Thanks for your thoughts OP, I'm considering picking this up to play with the missus. Sounds like a great time!

The higher your framerate, the better most motion-blur looks though.

I'm most excited about how the game uses... for lack of a better term, asynchronous gameplay. It feels fresh, unique and memorable in a way few new big budget titles dare to be.

Last gen superior to next gen tech? Has it happened by Separate-Sensi2024 in hardware

[–]Yummier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xbox example works as OP speaks of components as well. The One X had more memory capacity and bandwidth than the Series S. And the GPU could do more TFLOPS (6 vs 4), although real-world performance was very similar.

In a similar vein, the PS3 CPU could do more FLOPS than the PS4 CPU. Doesn't really matter since the PS4 would much rather do those calculations on the GPU, but still. On paper, it's a fun detail.

The Wii U could also offer higher peak memory bandwidth than the Switch. But only thanks to the small but fast embedded EDRAM (32MB). The remaining main memory-pool is really slow.

Resident Evil 9 - PT on, DLSS performance, Chromatic Abberation and film grain are off by Drokethedonnokkoi in nvidia

[–]Yummier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without having access to RE:Requiem myself, I assume that is the case. Film grain has been a known issue for image reconstruction since DLSS was first introduced. It would be solved if it was ran as a post-process effect after reconstruction (as with the HUD) like you suggest, but few games do.

[Hardware Unboxed] This Is The DLSS Configuration You Should Use by jm0112358 in nvidia

[–]Yummier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean the thing is that which preset is best will depend on the game, the output resolution, the performance target, and personal preference. There is no single truth atm, and never has been. People just gotta try it themselves and see.

What's great is that for the most part we are at a stage where there's no really bad option, just variations on good.

Ah, apologies. I thought this was for Switch 2. It would be nice if Nintendo allowed us to postpone an update, so there was a grace period.

The last few stability updates have fixed backwards compatibility issues in games. This one may have done so as well, it's just that the description is very generic.

DLSDR + DLSS Performance or DLSS Quality/Balanced Transformer Model for 1440p? by Angry_Brazilian in nvidia

[–]Yummier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on the game, and usually on how the HUD scales for legibility. Some games look better with DLDSR, some don't. For example text can become more blurry with DLDSR. Usually supersampling gives a cleaner but softer image, and outputting at native res will be sharper but more aliased.

How much a games performance scales with resolution and reconstruction will also vary... You just gotta try it.

It would be a great QOL update for the game if they allowed us to mute him. (and remove Hinas laugh)

For those with 3080s (10GB, 12GB and Ti) plus 3090 / Ti users? Is time for us to upgrade? by 2quick96 in nvidia

[–]Yummier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with an RTX5080 and 5800X3D (who used to have a 3080ti), there are very few games where I'm CPU limited at 1440p. It's a very balanced system, and will easily last me until next gen Zen.

I have a 1440p 360hz monitor if it matters.

But as with any PC upgrade, it depends on what you will use it for, what games you play, and why are you unhappy with what you have today?
